As a student, I have gained vital knowledge and skills that have helped build my understanding of the essential role of nursing leaders and managers in healthcare settings. In this reflection, I would like to emphasise on certain significant aspects of this course and analyse their impact on my personal and professional progress.
First and foremost, I've learned to value the importance of strong leadership in the nursing field. I've learnt about many leadership style as a Democratic leader, ideas, and frameworks through in-depth conversations, assignments, and hands-on activities. I've been able to identify my own leadership style and potential growth areas by understanding the benefits and drawbacks of each leadership style. I've come to understand that being a leader involves more than just holding a position; it also entails motivating people, creating a positive work atmosphere, and advocating for patients and other healthcare workers.
Furthermore, the course has shed light on the College of Nurses of Ontario Practice and Guidelines which has allowed me to align my actions with the CNO's vision, values, and standards, ensuring that I deliver high-quality care to my patients. By integrating the guidelines into my practice, I have become more mindful of professional ethics, patient-centered care, and evidence-based practice. The CNO's guidelines have served as a compass, guiding me in making informed decisions, advocating for patient safety, and promoting a culture of continuous learning.
In terms of personal growth, the course has provided numerous opportunities for self-reflection and self-assessment. I have had the chance to identify my strengths, areas for improvement, and personal values as they relate to nursing leadership and management.
Overall, the nursing leadership and management course in Semester 1 has been an enlightening journey. My knowledge, abilities, and insights have improved as a result, and I am now more prepared to become a leader and a manager. As a nursing professional, I am excited to continue putting what I have learnt, into my nursing practice in the future.
