The Faculty of Technical Sciences provides education and performs research in various engineering disciplines, including biomedical engineering, applied mathematics, software engineering, mechatronics, etc. The faculty has been recognized in the European context for participating in prominent scientific projects. The Chair of Mathematics has become world-renowned for its distinguished experts in algebra and logic with application in engineering disciplines.

Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. The Department of Information Technology, employing 120 academic staff and 110 full-time PhD students., hosts around 30 research groups working on a number of up-to-date topics, out of which artificial intelligence attracts particular attention. This provides a very stimulating environment for the project team and strong support for the planned research activities.
