Meet the Board
Meet the Board
I’m Kelley Martinez, Al’s widow and founder of The Al Martinez Legacy Fund. I’m so excited to bring awareness to my late husband’s cancer along with raising funds for Katy HS FFA scholarships!
Ruben and I are honored to serve on the board of our son, Al's, Legacy Fund, created in his memory after his courageous battle with liposarcoma. While his time with us was far too short, his strength, compassion, and light continue to guide everything we do. This fund is a way to ensure that his spirit lives on—supporting the things he was so passionate about.
Al's passion with FFA began in high school and continued to flourish through his college years and into adulthood. Participation in FFA events was not only a natural fit for his interest, but it also provided a platform for him to refine his skills, develop valuable life skills and build a sense of community. After college, Al's passion for FFA continued his time and energy as best he could at prominent agricultural events (Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo & Katy FFA Program Livestock Show & Rodeo). This profound influence of FFA on Al's life highlights how early involvement led to a lifelong commitment to agricultural pursuits and civic engagement.
Though nothing can fill the space his absence has left, this work gives us purpose. It is a promise to carry forward the impact he was just beginning to make and a way to turn our grief into action.
My name is Cris Martinez and I am thankful for this honor to serve on the board of the Al Martinez Legacy Fund.
As Al’s brother and someone who knew him for forty-two years, I reflect on all of Al’s many accomplishments throughout life. One really stands out – His selfless service and commitment, not only to his family, but also to agriculture education for FFA students.
Let us continue to honor his legacy through this fund and create impactful opportunities for Katy FFA students, just as Al has envisioned.
My name is Jay Robertson and it’s a humbling opportunity to serve on the Al Martinez Legacy Fund.
As many of you know, The Al Martinez legacy foundation was created in honor of my brother-in-law, Al Martinez, whose recent passing has left a huge hole in our hearts. His dedication to the youth of Katy FFA, the Katy Rodeo and everyone he came in contact with was inspiring, and his Legacy Fund was his vision to continue positively impacting so many lives.
I only knew Al for 8 years, but it feels like yesterday when I met Al for the first time at the Martinez family thanksgiving dinner. Needless to say he made a strong and proud big brother impression with a quick “one-on-one” chat outside to talk about what my intentions were dating his little sister. The conversation ended with him chuckling saying, “man, I’m just messing with you”.
I’m truly honored to help carry on the work he was so passionate about. As a board member, I hope to help ensure that his legacy lives on and that the mission of the foundation continues to grow and thrive.
I’m excited (and humbled) to be part of this journey.
My name is Chris Garcia and I’m honored to serve as a board member on the Al Martinez Legacy Fund.
Al and I met at the end of high school, and I immediately knew that Al was “one of those guys”. Whether we were playing in a softball or kickball tournament, watching our favorite Houston sport teams or just hanging out with friends you knew you were in for a good time. We spent many late nights listening to old country, drinking a cold beer and solving the world’s problems.
Al loved all things Katy HS, but especially Katy FFA. From volunteering with the Katy Rodeo to proudly supporting Cayden with his FFA projects, I absolutely know that it brings Al the utmost joy that his legacy will be supporting the KHS FFA students of today through scholarships. Please join me in continuing that support by donating to the Al Martinez Legacy Fund.
Howdy from Minnesota! My name is Brad Harrison and I'm proud to be a part of the team will carry on the legacy of my best friend, Al Martinez. Little did I know how much my life would change in the summer of 1987, when at 7 years old all you had to do to make new friends was move in right behind one, but man did we make some awesome memories roaming the streets of Village Green West.
Al lived his life to an incredibly high standard in all that he did. It is that same standard that the Al Martinez Legacy Fund will continue to uphold in encouraging the youth of Katy HS FFA to achieve in all that they do.
Thank you for following our journey carrying on Al’s wish of providing opportunities for these youth.
I’m Gregg Hunt, and I’m honored to serve as a board member for The Al Martinez Legacy Fund.
Al was not only a dear friend but also a passionate advocate for Katy FFA. His vision was clear: to support young people who embody service, leadership, and compassion through scholarship opportunities.
Though cancer may have taken his voice, it will never silence his spirit. His deep love for family and his belief in the life-changing power of FFA will continue to inspire through the work of this foundation that proudly carries his name.
Hi everyone! My name is Ashley Warren and I am honored to be a part of the Al Martinez Legacy Fund board.
I did not get the pleasure of knowing Al as well as many did, but Kelley is truly one of the best humans I know. As a therapist, I know there are no words that really bring comfort in a time of such loss, but when Kelley told me about Al’s dream of leaving behind this legacy and I knew that I could help in this way!
So I am behind the scenes running the shop and social media for the fund and I can’t wait to see the legacy we create!
