Treating Everyone as Family
Treating Everyone as Family
This assignment I was asked to do a reading response for Madeline Urabaszewski's article "Treating Everyone as Family". I gave my opinion of the article and how interesting the piece was.
Madeline Urbaszewski’s article titled “Treating Everyone as Family” surprised & interested me in many ways. The first surprising thing I noticed in this article was the fact that Urbaszewski had never experienced such hospitality. It was almost sad in a way to think she had never experienced that hospitality that so many people are used to in southern states. Growing up in the south all my life I am glad to have always had that southern hospitality shown to me. To be a young girl & not knowing how to act when someone was just genuinely nice to you was so shocking because she had never experienced that. This article really interested me & really made me think about her perspective. I never considered the idea that having that hospitality & environment really does make you feel welcome & loved. I try to think of myself being in that situation & how it would make me feel too. As I ponder that I absolutely Koonce2 agree that it makes you feel comfortable, loved & like you belong. One thing I noticed with Urbaszewski’s writing style is the detail & things she remembers as a young girl. The sentence that resonates with me Is when she writes, “What can I get for you, honey? A waitress asked me on my first day in Louisiana. This move not only impacted Urabaszewski’s first day in Louisiana but also her daily life into adulthood. I love that she remembers the first day she moved to New Orleans & gives such details that it makes you feel like you are there with her. Urbaszewski does so well at explaining how comfortable & loved she felt & it makes you feel the same way as your reading her article.
