The Joan Perry Brock Center is a 3,000-seat arena at Longwood University that hosts Longwood Athletics events, campus programming, concerts, and community entertainment events. The venue supports large-scale live productions through professional lighting, audio, and event operations systems.
From November 2024 to December 2024, I shadowed the lighting and audio board position to gain hands-on experience with the arena’s live production systems. In January 2025, I became a paid employee for the Longwood Athletics Department and continued working at the Joan Perry Brock Center throughout the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters.
As a lighting and audio board operator, I worked on the event production crew to support both athletic and special events held in the arena. My responsibilities included programming and operating the Full Boar 4 lighting console and audio board, coordinating with crew members during live events, and assisting with overall event operations. In addition to working Longwood home basketball games, I also supported events such as the Harlem Globetrotters, where I created lighting presets for the show, Longwood’s Spring Weekend concert, where I managed lighting cues during the live performance, and Longwood’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Through this role, I gained hands-on experience in live event production, technical operation, communication, and working in fast-paced entertainment and athletic environments.
Before the live event, I was tasked with creating lighting presets for the production team to review and potentially incorporate into the show. The presets were designed to provide a variety of lighting options that could be selected for use during the Harlem Globetrotters performance.
