The Chatham PASS program uses students’ PowerSchool ID number to access the public library’s digital and physical materials through any Chatham County Public Library location. This program expands access to library resources for increased student success. Your child’s Chatham PASS can help them complete schoolwork and improve reading skills.
We started the Chatham Central Virtual Academy during the 2018-2019 school year. It was in an effort to keep the student enrollment from declining at the school and also to offer opportunities for a fully virtual program for students who had unique needs such as professional sports, students who are models, or students who are actors. This also provided opportunities to Chatham County families who homeschool their children. The program paved the way for our current CCS Virtual Academy.
The CCS Teacher Reach Program was developed to help put the very best CCS teachers in front of more students. It was also used to help with overcrowding at NWHS. By allowing students to attend class every other day, the school saved seats in the building daily. In addition, the teacher who had the very best student results had double the student enrollment in classes. On A day, the students attended in class sessions. On B day the students attended online and worked on asyncronous activities. The data from the first 2 years showed positive results and paved the way for this type of creative problem solving in other subject areas.
CCS held it's very first fully virtual science fair this year due to COVID-19. We wanted to be sure that students still had the opportunity to showcase their science abilities and participate at the district, regional, and state level. We are excited that many students went on to botht he regional and state level this year.
IN THE WORKS- The TEACH Chatham Program is designed to atract current Chatham County Schools students in the 10th grade to pursue a career in education. During the 11th and 12th grade year, students will take education courses through CCCC. Students can then transfer to CCCC for the Chatham Promise and then to UNC for the full Education program.
The CCS Education Village Project is in the visioning stage. The idea behind this project is to have affordable housing in Chatham for educators. We know there is a teacher shortage, and we know that recruitment in Chatham can be difficult due to a lack of affordable housing. We lose canidates each year to surrounding districts because of the housing issue. The CCS Educator Village would seek to recruit and retain educators to Chatham. We have held several meetings with other school districts who have developed these programs in an effort to learn more about this. We currently have 2 community partners who would be willing to continue this idea if the Board of Education and Comissioners are interested. This would be a unique partnership. Chatham Education Foundation and BOLD Construction have expressed interest in assisting with this project. This would be a fully sustaining endeavor that would eventually also provide income for the district or the Chatham Education Foundation that can be used to support the district. Did you know that the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union offers a 15 year interest free loan for Teacher Villages?
