Chatham County Schools (June 2014 -June 2025)
Responsible for the instructional programs and student support services within the district. Served on the Superintendent’s Cabinet and provide oversight to the district curriculum directors and coordinators. Also managed the largest portion of the district’s budget. Routinely provided reports and information to the School Board and other stakeholder groups. Lead the district’s accreditation and strategic planning efforts.
Professional Highlights include:
Led AdvanceEd accreditation process, achieving the highest score in CCS history (well above national average)
Led the Strategic Planning process and developed a national, award-winning document; Flight Plan 2020 and One Chatham
Received over $1 million in grant funding over a 4-year period
Led the support of two schools in the district to come out of low performing status in just 2 years
Improved letter grades across the district moving six schools from a C grade to a B grade
Increased achievement for a variety of subgroups by 10%-20% across grades and subjects
Created an award-winning community literacy collaborative called Chatham Reads
Developed and secured funding for the district’s first Kindergarten Readiness Camp
Developed a contract routing system and division tracking document for fiscal protocols
Developed a beginner Teacher Coach Program in collaboration with Human Resources
Increased EOG scores in Grades 3-8 above the state average in every subject and grade; a first in CCS
Decreased suspensions by 60% in 2 years
Increased at-risk hit rates from 50% or less, to over 80% in every school (national goal is 75%-80%)
Secured funding from county to expand the district’s grades 9-12, 1-1 laptop program to grades K-12
Achieved National Honors for the district’s Arts and Music Programs
Led district’s AVID program to achieve National Demonstration Site status – only rural high school in the U.S.
Increased ACT scores to 15th in the state out of 115 districts
Increased fiscal resources through contract re-negotiation, saving over $175,000
Developed and led the district Equity and Excellence for Everyone Team, presenting at state and national events
Supported the district scholastic competitions to achieve the NCASA 2017 District Scholastic Cup Award
Secured funding from County Commissioners for instructional coaches for all schools
Developed a digital data repository for all district achievement data
Designed and implemented a Teacher Portal, Administrator Portal, and Cabinet Portal to increase efficiency
Orange County Schools (March 2014 - June 2014)
Responsible for the curriculum and instructional programs in the district. Served on the Superintendent’s Cabinet and provided oversight to the district curriculum directors and coordinators. Provided reports and information to the School Board as requested.

Developed a task-based principal hiring process
Developed a district- and community-based equity team
Consolidated contracts for software programs resulting in over $100,000 in savings
Developed a research request process and public information request process
Secured funding for school-level academic coaches from County Commissioners

Developed a team structure for digital files and conversion to Google applications
Developed and conducted the search process for a new Technology Director
Developed a process for cabinet-level staff to share weekly updates for the Superintendent
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (October 2012 - March 2014)
Responsible for the district’s Response to Instruction (RtI) program and all associated staff development. Oversaw and managed section 504 services for the district. Provided resources and training for universal screening and other data management systems and tools. Managed and coordinated the Aims Web, EXCEED, MCLASS, and MAPS programs for the district. Provided support for school Tier 3 RtI Chairs, section 504 coordinators, and school leaders in the area of RtI and 504 procedures. Also served on the district’s twice exceptional committee, equity leadership team, district data advisory team, curriculum leadership committee, special needs advisory committee, district leadership team, strategic planning team, new school think tank committee, and dual language advisory committee.
Work Deliverables included:
Increased district hit rates from 40% to above 75% in every school (national goal is 75%-80%)
Received grant funding to support behavior specialists and software to support behavior needs
Named a Village Pride Town Hero for work advocating for at-risk students and families
Received a multi-district 3-year grant for Response to Instruction from Oak Foundation over $300,000
Served as the leader of the RtI consortium with other districts
Selected to present at state and national conferences on RtI/MTSS and Equity
Implemented progress monitoring and universal screening procedures across all schools
Implemented a 504 flow chart and review process for the district
Served as a district leader on the Special Needs Advisory Committee

Developed a 504 transition process for schools and families ensuring all plans were received by schools

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools School (July 2008 - October 2012)
Served as the Principal in a Pre-K-5, Title I school. Provided leadership to assist the school in meeting AYP standards. School met expected and high growth standards for 3 years. School climate survey, PLC survey, and Teacher Working Conditions survey results rose to some of the highest in the district and state in less than 2 years. Implemented Professional Learning Communities, RtI, and other programs to assist with student achievement. Supervised over 130 staff members including: recruitment, training, evaluation, disciplinary action, and renewal procedures.

Increased TWC scores from lowest in the district to one of the highest, and above the state average
Nominated as Principal of the Year in 2011 for CHCCS

Selected by the Superintendent to speak at the district’s convocation on inspiring an “Uncommon Culture”

Represented the only CHCCS school that did not have discipline disproportionality
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools School (July 2006 - July 2008)
Served as an assistant principal in a K-5 Title I and Dual Language school. Duties included facilities management, instructional monitoring, personnel management, staff training, and day-to-day operations of the school. Served on the school leadership team and served as chair of the RtI team. Assisted the school in meeting AYP and implementation of the Dual Language Program.
Led the school in first year while Principal Bivins was on extended maternity leave
Decreased achievement gaps for all subgroups
Moved the school from low performing and AYP sanction status to “exceeded growth” status
Assisted the school in a Spanish Dual Language Program implementation through 5th grade
Increased parent satisfaction ratings to above 85% in every category

Cherokee County Schools (January 2006 - July 2006)
Served as an assistant principal in K-8 school. Duties included teacher observations, facilities management, transportation, discipline, volunteer training, staff development training, and other administrative duties. The school achieved the highest achievement scores during this year in the school’s history.
Cherokee County Schools (April 2004 - January 2006)
Technology Director for school district with 15 school sites. Responsible for implementation of all district-wide technology programs. Responsible for managing technology personnel, staff development, facilities planning, infrastructure, contracts, district web page, policy creation, budgets, vendor relations, hardware and software purchasing, curriculum development, evaluation procedures, media automation systems, textbook inventory systems, e-Mail communication systems, Internet filtering programs, E-rate funding, technology planning, Annual Media and Technology Report, and phone billing. Involved in other district duties including: Serving as NCWISE Project Manager, grant writer, Public Relations, SAC and SIP District Chair, and Early Childhood Pre-K Committee.
Cherokee County Schools (August 2003 - April 2004)
Responsible for the integration of technology in the curriculum. Developed model lessons and lesson resources for teachers. Developed and taught staff development sessions for teachers in the area of technology, literacy, and math. Developed website and online resources for teachers. Served on Cherokee County Schools HOUSSE and Early Childhood Leadership Committees. Assisted principals with action plans and staff evaluations when requested. Covered schools in principal absences. Selected as the Technology Director after only 8 months in the position.
Cherokee County Schools (August 2002 - August 2003)
Teacher in a self-contained third grade classroom in a Title I school. Selected to be the district lead teacher after only one year in the district. The Superintendent created the new position of Lead Teacher and assigned me to this role; subsequently, my class achieved the highest test scores in the grade level.
Alamance Burlington Schools (June 2001 - June 2002)
Assigned to 11 schools in the school system: including elementary, middle, and high schools. Responsible for staff development, testing implementation, technology planning, lesson planning, and general technology assistance. Organized the inaugural ‘TEC Fest’ for Alamance-Burlington School System with over 300 contributors. Helped create website to assist technology teachers and administrators. Worked with web developers and architect to design curriculum management database system and district-wide instructional technology resource portal. (Moved to a new city after 1 year in the position due to family illness.)
Alamance Burlington Schools (August 1999 - June 2001)
Responsible for teaching technology classes to grades 1-5 in a public elementary school; incorporating daily integration of technology and student achievement objectives. Other duties included instructing and implementing staff development opportunities for staff members in the area of technology and serving on the leadership team. Selected to present at state and national conferences for technology integration and professional development.
Alamance Burlington Schools (August 1997 - August 1999)
Responsible for teaching all subject areas in a self-contained 3rd grade classroom in a Title I School. During both years, achieved high growth for students and highest test scores in the grade level. Named the North Carolina Student Teacher of the Year.
