Ajit Singha: A Melody That Still Echoes
Ajit Singha was not merely an Assamese singer—he was a voice that carried emotion, a composer who shaped melodies, a music director who gave life to songs, and an actor who brought stories to the screen.
Among his most beloved musical creations are timeless pieces like “Bihu Bihu Lagise Gaat” (voiced by Bhupen Hazarika and Ruby Singha), “Bondhu Meli De Tor Dukhor Dukhoni Haat”, “Moi Aji Songibihin”, and the soulful “O Maya Bhora Ei Dhora” from the film Bhaiti. His stirring composition “He Swahid Tumak Sohosro Pronam” rose beyond music to become an anthem of tribute for the All Assam Students’ Union.
As a music director, Ajit Singha left his imprint on Assamese cinema through films such as Bhaiti, Ganesh, Duronir Rong, and Bongshodhor. On screen, he portrayed memorable roles—appearing as Rafiq in Siraj and as a leading man opposite Eva Achao in Kecha Xon.
