In the sixth hour of the Amduat, the most pivotal event of the nocturnal journey unfolds: the Ba of Ra, his animating essence, reunites with his mummified body (or alternatively, with the Ba of Osiris) within the protective coil of the serpent Mehen. This sacred union of opposites (soul and body, light and darkness, movement and stillness) marks the turning point of solar regeneration. Yet this moment of transformation is also one of great peril, for in the seventh hour, the dreaded serpent Apophis, embodiment of chaos, lies in wait to halt the sun's passage. Only through Isis' binding magic, Seth's destructive force, and Selket's protective power is Apophis subdued. Having overcome this trial, Ra opens the gates of the tomb in the eighth hour before vigorously rowing through the waters beyond Sokar's sandy island in the ninth hour. His rebirth continues through the purifying immersion in Nun's primordial waters during the tenth hour, culminating in the full restoration of his eyes (symbolizing health and wholeness) by the eleventh hour. Finally, at the twelfth hour, Ra enters the eastern horizon, reborn as the dawn sun, completing the cosmic cycle of death and renewal that sustains ma'at, the eternal order of the universe.
