The name of Aires Sollerics began to be felt in the Valley of Sóller in 1969, the result of the creation of a dance school that began its adventure a year earlier, in 1968. From that moment on, Aires Sollerics worked in favor of popular culture and traditional from the island of Mallorca.
Aires Sollerics is more than a dance group, it is the founder of the Sollerica Association of Popular Culture Can Dulce and also founder of the International Folkloric Exhibition of Sóller "Sa Mostra".
During its fifty-five years of existence, it has dedicated its efforts to working for the recovery and dissemination of the music, dance and traditional clothing of Mallorca.
From the first moment he created a school to show our popular dances and raise people's awareness that dance should be the heritage of the entire town and not just of folk groups. For this reason, they have worked to open the dance to the people and were one of the first groups to organize a popular dance. At first it brought them a lot of criticism, although today, in Mallorca, dances are held in all the towns.
For almost thirty years, they have dedicated special attention to the conservation and respect for traditional clothing, they were the first group, in Mallorca, to organize a parade dedicated to clothing from the 18th and 19th centuries. It was a very important step, which has helped other groups follow the same initiative and take into account clothing as an important part of the tradition. In this way, Aires Sollerics trusts in pedagogical work and respect for our culture and history.
Aires has traveled around the world bringing the Sollerica and Mallorcan culture to remote places such as Puerto Rico, Egypt, Greece, France, Portugal, Italy and Japan among others. As well as several exchanges with groups from the Iberian Peninsula.
Music:
The group is dedicated to the search for forgotten pieces, in popular tradition and pieces preserved in parish archives on the verge of disappearing. He launched piccolo and xeremia courses in times of danger for the survival of these instruments and organized courses to learn to play castanets.
The recitals are concerts in which Mallorcan musical pieces are combined with traditional instruments. The musical part of the group participates in concerts organized in Sóller by the Musical Youth and Santa Cecília, we also organize recitals in collaboration with the municipal music band and the xeremiers, we have also participated in the Habaneras concert, among others.
The dance:
He studies the bolero as a school dance and the most genuine forms of dance in Sóller and its region. He recovers almost lost dances and delves into the study of fandango and jota. Establishes differences between ritual dances and dances and, in the latter, according to social classes, jobs, places, etc.
Popular dances are a manifestation of popular music and dance, which is revived in the squares of all towns at festivals. Every year, during the festivals of Sóller and surrounding towns, we participate by performing various popular dances and also to those invited by other groups throughout the island.
The dance show where a combination of music, clothing and traditional dances are shown. Aires Sollerics was the creator of the Sa Mostra International Folk Festival, which had 31 editions. We have offered the combination of show dance with a combination of traditional clothing display and poetic recital for the last few years in summer (see Saint Bartholomew's dance on our YouTube channel), we have offered it in an outdoor space like a theater.
Clothing:
For almost thirty years, they have dedicated special attention to the conservation and respect for traditional clothing, they were the first group, in Mallorca, to organize a parade dedicated to clothing from the 18th and 19th centuries. It was a very important step, which has helped other groups follow the same initiative and take into account clothing as an important part of the tradition. In this way, Aires Sollerics trusts in pedagogical work and respect for our culture and history. We have held many parades in various spaces in Sóller and throughout the island, such as Pollença, Sineu, Santanyí and Palma among others. One of the last activities related to clothing was an interpretation or “performance” of daily life at the beginning of the 20th century at the Can Prunera House-Museum and an exhibition with clothing from the end of the 20th century. 19th and early 19th centuries. XX, within the framework of the 50th anniversary celebration.
The dance school:
It is another important milestone of the group, it has remained alive from the beginning, training future dancers from childhood, and also the adult dance school. In this sense, Sóller has hosted many dance school tribades and we have participated in exchanges with other dance schools in Mallorca.
Aires Sollerics has managed to publish a book, written by Joan Carles Simó, which tells the story of the group's 50 years of existence and has also managed to record four albums, the last a double CD, for its 50th anniversary.
This year they celebrate their fifty-fifth birthday, a milestone that is difficult to achieve, with a life without interruption and they do not stop here, they continue with the same strength and energy; It currently has more than 60 active members.
