ASR President and Team Facilitator
Nathan Borcyk is a Senior Mechanical Engineering Student at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Borcyk started his involvement with ASR in 2015 and was a major contributor to previous year's projects including the gap spanner boom and anchoring device. Starting this academic year, Nathan was elected ASR President with the hopes of growing the club's membership, design capability, and involvement with STEM outreach. He is involved in undergraduate research with the club's faculty adviser, Dr. Carl Nelson, and works with Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital to create better rehabilitation machines for patients with gait abnormalities. Recently, he also joined Dr. Ben Terry's lab working with a team of engineers to create custom equipment for the Department of Defense. Borcyk plans on attending grad school pursuing a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering with the hopes of one day becoming an entrepreneur and professor.
Safety Lead
Mia Sharpnack is a freshman mechanical engineering student at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. This is her first year of involvement with ASR, as she participates on the Zip Tie Cutter Team. She looks forward to planning and participating in outreach events with ASR, to encourage more young people to pursue education and careers in the STEM fields, especially women. Mia hopes to work on improving the current technology of renewable energy, and creating more efficient sources of renewable energy, after graduation.
Team Administrator
Claire Ashley is a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from Overland Park, KS. She is majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She is working under Dr. Carl Nelson as a member of the Air and Space Research Team on a project that was accepted by NASA’s Micro-g NExT program. She is highly involved on campus as a Study Stop tutor, and as a member of the Honors Program, Society of Women Engineers, and her sorority, Delta Gamma, among other organizations. She was an intern at LI-COR Biosciences. She also has a minor in Spanish, and spent a summer studying abroad in Spain.
