aimswebPlus uses norm-referencing to compare a student's scores with local or national groups of students. The reference groups of students are in the same grade, were tested on the same content, and during the same time of the year. This information is presented using percentiles. Percentiles represent the percentage of students nationally who scored at or below a given score. For example, a score at the 20th percentile means the student scored the same or higher than 20% of the norm sample.
aimswebPLUS reports scores from a range from the 1st to 99th percentiles. This is a common way to interpret all test scores. aimswebPLUS uses the same five performance levels for all assessments and reports. These scores are colored coded to make it easier to identify and interpret scores.
Well Below Average: 1st–10th percentiles: displayed in orange
Below Average: 11th–25th percentiles: displayed in yellow
Average: 26th–74th percentiles: displayed in green
Above Average: 75th–89th percentiles: displayed in teal
Well Above Average: 90th–99th percentiles: displayed in blue
Scores in the Well Below Average range indicate that a student has a significant performance deficit. The student will likely require remediation on the content. Skills will most likely need to be introduced one to two grades below grade level. Scores in the Below Average range indicate that a student is struggling with some or many on grade level concepts. Scores above the 25th percentile are considered the student’s instructional level.
aimswebPlus will automatically flag scores that are in the Below Average and Well Below Average. This is done with the goal setting icon next to the scores. The goal setting icon is a black circle with a white plus sign. The student may require progress monitoring in that area. Teachers will need to look at all the data to decide what interventions are needed and should be progress monitored. Teachers can start progress monitoring by clicking the goal setting icon, this will be covered more in the next section.
The Benchmark Comparison Screen will automatically color code scores using the aimswebPLUS performance levels. The overall composite score and each assessment will be coded. When looking at set rosters and not the whole grade level, students will be listed with the lowest composite scores at the top and highest at the bottom. A color coded ledge is located on this screen to help interpret the scores.
