Benchmark testing is a universal screening tool used to assess students three times per year. These standards-based assessments are made of a battery of multiple brief measures. The assessments provide information on students' strengths and weaknesses. The goal of benchmark testing is to inform instruction and that will improve achievement. Scores can be used to compare how a student is performing in math and reading compared to grade level expectations. Benchmark testing is completed at the student’s grade level.
The three testing windows to administer benchmark testing are:
Fall: August 1 - November 30
Winter: December 1 - March 15
Spring: March 16 - July 31
Although you can administer benchmark testing at any time during the year, administrations within a smaller testing window is recommended. The school district will inform you of the recommended testing windows.
