Twenty-one participants joined aims seminar on 5 October 2018. The talk given by speaker Dr Zulfan Adi Putra was about simulation process in industry. As this simulation is the tools hence, it needs basic knowledge to operate such kinds of program. The basic is on how to differentiate dynamic modular and static one. The best way to get accurate results is doing equation orientation then includes the results in sequential modular checking each equation. Next session was proceeded by Rendra and Wegik about their research progress. They did impressed progress to assess not only industrial process but also safety assessment.
Thank you for joining AIMS seminar. See you on the next session 😊 be passionate

#3 AIMS TECHNICAL SEMINAR
The third aims seminar had been conducted on 21st September 2018. It was attended by 15 enthusiastic participants. The first session, Dr Nonni gave a talk about photocatalyst and aerosol. It was mostly about their fabrication. The interesting material had been introduced such as egg shale structure. It aimed to enlarge surface area. For future it could be applied to fabricate catalyst. In order to get that certain structure, researcher manipulated temperature used. This session indeed to expand our insight. The second session was research progress presentation brought by Charlene Fernandes. Her research was basically to know the effect of silica additive in PVDF membrane. The founding was very interesting. Silica could increase membrane porosity thus upgrades membrane performance. Both of these sessions flow smoothly with interesting discussion. Thank you for your attention and see you on the next Aims seminar 😊.

55 participants from various background attended AIMS Training Session #4 on Effective Writing of Review Articles by Professor Dr Mohamed Nasef. The session are intensively engaged as Prof Nasef shared a lot of experiences on writing review paper from his first paper till the unexpected paper from his student. Writing research papers is one of the easier way to build one’s career. In the time of internet, one cannot be content with likes or views alone. The research papers have to be well thought of and be written for posterity and value. However, this process seemingly uphill task. It requires time, focus and discipline. In this training, Prof Nasef highlighted method from collecting journal paper to read till analyze and compare all the papers. This method really beneficial for researchers, students and lecturers as it will enhance on critical analyzation of journal paper and strengthen the understanding on the research topic. Hope to see you again in our next training!
The Membrane Technology Short-Courses was attended by 56 participants from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia(UTM), University of Malaya(UM) and Universiti Teknologi Petronas(UTP). The short-courses constituted a good opportunity to foster the networking among membrane technology research teams and the sharing of knowledge on membrane technology in the context of how to improved on selectivity, permeability, application and physico-chemical properties.
In Session 1, Professor Dr Mohamed Nasef was invited to give insight on Imparting Desired Properties of Membrane by Radiation-Induced Grafting. He suggested that this method could enhance the mechanical properties and gas performance.
For the Session 2, Profesor Kang Li from Imperial College London was invited to share on Catalytic Membrane for CO2 Utilizations: Theories, Challenges and Applications. He shared his experiences on various project such as water waste treatment and application of membrane on oxygen tank for diver.
It was an interactive short-course as it was ended with open networking discussion session. This membrane technology short-courses give golden opportunity for researchers, students and lecturers for networking with expert on membrane and exchange idea. Looking forward for another membrane short-course by AIMS!

#2. AIMS TECHNICAL SEMINAR
Bi-weekly AIMS Technical Seminar has been held on Friday 7 September 2018. There are 19 participants joining this event. First session was presented by Dr Nik Abdul Hadi talking about membrane gas separation. It was scrutinized about Mixed Matrix Membrane (MMM) for gas separation. MMM is coming from the trade-off curve of organic and inorganic materials in term of selectivity and permeability. Hence, MMM produces excellent membrane performance. The second session was delivered by Alwani and sharjeel about their research progress. Alwani presented about the effect of ionic liquid in membrane materials. This invention found effectively to increase membrane performance. Another one, Sharjeel introduced new membrane cleaning system using rotating shaft. Lastly, QnA session facilitated the discussion between participants and presenter. In this part, such comments and recommendation were delivered to improve project performance.
Thank you for the great enthusiasm. Keep joining our next event.
Nowadays, people release that knowledge is the new currency. Thus, come and grab it 😊
The 4th International Conference On Built and Environmental Technology (ICOBET 2018) is one of 4 topic interest in International Conference of Innovation, Engineering & Technology (ICIET 2018). This event is a collaboration across the countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Syiria, Bangladesh and Nigeria. ICOBET focuses on materials and environmental technology. It was held in Hilton Hotel Kuching, Sarawak Malaysia on 15-17 august 2018 organized by Malaysian Society of Instrument and Control Technology (MSICT). AIMS took part in this event by delegating its members, Shafiq bin Mohd Hizam with "The projects are membrane forward osmosis for produced water treatment", Nur Syakinah with "membrane fabrication using electrospinning" and Ratri Rahmawati with "novel finned spacer for membrane fouling control". We got 2 awards of best presenter for Shafiq and best paper for Ratri. Hopefully, through this event we can drive our innovation as a researcher and scientists. Congratulation for all of you!!!

With the concern of enhancing the skill of students in order to deliver the best work. AIMS undertook another training series #3 about "Understanding Data and Statistic Application by using JMP.21" presented by Dr Zulfan Adi Putra.
Statistics is the science of collecting, analyzing and making an inference from data. Statistical methods and analyses are often used to communicate research findings and to support hypotheses and give credibility to research methodology and conclusions. It is important for researchers and also consumers of research to understand statistics so that they can be informed, evaluate the credibility and usefulness of information, and make appropriate decisions
Hands-on practice on JMP help to understand more on statistics. JMP is a user-friendly software for creating figures in clinical research. JMP also provides a convenient way to do quality control (QC) of listings, tables, and figures rather than just use Microsoft Excel only. Looking forward to see more people at our next event!

After successfully conducting Post-Graduate Training Series#2. AIMS presented another series program, Technical Seminar Series, which aimed as a platform to share technical knowledge and to exchange expertise between staff members and PG students. Attended by 19 participants from chemical engineering department in which there were 2 session of presentations, lecture and research progress presentation. The first session was given by DR. Roil explaining about "membrane fouling including distinction of those foulants and strategy to diminish membrane fouling". Afterwards, the second session, Ratri and Syakinah presented their research progress. The attendances were encouraged to be engaged in the discussion where made the event more interesting. So, don't miss the next AIMS Technical Seminar Series where you will gain a knowledge!

Aims have conducted a half-day training for three groups of MPU4 that plan to build a decentralized water treatment units. Each groups will have project in either Malaysia, Indonesia or Philippine. From the training they have learn about conventional treatment technologies for production of drinking water from raw water. They also learn about membrane based process for water treatment, and recently developed technology that operate on gravity driven basis, such as the one developed by EAWAG and Sky Juice Foundation.
In the final stage of the training, each group design their own membrane based process for water treatment. They presented process design, cost estimation and operation of their developed system. This program is part of AIMS target to disseminate the developed technology.
