Prof. Joongheon Kim
Dr. Joongheon Kim (M'06--SM'18) has been with Korea University, Seoul, Korea, since September 2019, and he is currently an associate professor at the School of Electrical Engineering. He has also been an adjunct professor at the Department of Semiconductor Engineering (with SK Hynix) (2021-), Department of Future Science and Technology Business (Graduate School) (2022-), and Department of Communications Engineering (with Samsung Electronics) (2023-). He received the B.S. and M.S. in computer science and engineering from Korea University, Seoul, Korea, in 2004 and 2006; and the Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Southern California (USC) (Viterbi School of Engineering), Los Angeles, CA, USA, in 2014, under the supervision of Prof. Andreas F. Molisch at the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Before joining Korea University, he was a research engineer at LG Electronics CTO Office, Seoul, Korea, from 2006 to 2009; an intern at InterDigital, San Diego, CA, USA, in 2012; a systems engineer at Intel Corporation, Santa Clara in Silicon Valley, CA, USA, from 2013 to 2016; and an assistant professor at Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Korea, from 2016 to 2019.
He has been serving as an editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and IEEE Internet of Things Journal. He is also a distinguished lecturer for IEEE Communications Society (2022-2023) and IEEE Systems Council (2022-2024).
He was a recipient of Annenberg Graduate Fellowship with his Ph.D. admission from USC (2009), Intel Corporation Next Generation and Standards (NGS) Division Recognition Award (2015), IEEE Systems Journal Best Paper Award (2020), IEEE ComSoc Multimedia Communications Technical Committee (MMTC) Outstanding Young Researcher Award (2020), and IEEE ComSoc MMTC Best Journal Paper Award (2021). He also received IEEE ICOIN Best Paper Award (2021), IEEE ICTC Best Paper Award (2022), and multiple IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) Seoul Chapter Awards.
