For over a decade, I dedicated my life to gymnastics, training, competing, and growing not only in skill, but in discipline and an unending love for the sport. The sport shaped who I am today. It taught me how to stay committed through challenges, how to push past setbacks, and how to rebuild and listen to my body!
As I enter my final year of high school comes to a close, I am stepping into a new season. While my competitive gymnastics journey is coming to a close, the lessons it gave me will continue to guide everything I do. I am now focused on preparing for attending Spelman College, where I plan to grow academically, develop my leadership skills to continue to use my voice as an advocate for those who need in the most.
Through gymnastics, I also experienced high-performance training environments that challenged me to adapt, stay disciplined, and lead by example. Those experiences helped prepare me for life beyond the sport. Above all, I remain grounded in my faith and thank everyone who has decided to support my during my athletic career. Thank you for being a part of this journey.
A Note of Gratitude
I want to sincerely thank the coaching staff at Ithaca College for the time, consideration, and opportunity you extended to me throughout the recruiting process. I am truly grateful for the belief you showed in my potential as both a student and athlete.
Being considered for a collegiate gymnastics opportunity is something I do not take lightly. I understand that only a small percentage of Black gymnasts continue competing at the college level, and I am honored to have been included in that group of athletes you evaluated and believed in.
After careful reflection and discussions with my family, I have made the decision to decline the offer. This was not an easy choice, as I have deep respect for process and the team at Ithaca.
I have also chosen to commit to attending Spelman, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), a decision that reflects both my academic goals and my desire to be part of an environment where I can grow, lead, and thrive in a space that is deeply meaningful to me. It's lao something I've also wanted since I was a little girl.
I will always appreciate the experience of being considered and the opportunity. It has been an important part of my journey and growth, and I carry that forward with gratitude. This was tough, but I am thankful for what's to come as I walk confidently in a different direction.
I visited William and Mary!
When I visited William & Mary, I was immediately struck by the campus’s historic charm. It felt like walking through history while imagining my future there. The coach was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made me feel comfortable and valued. The visit left a lasting impression on me and deepened my excitement about the possibility of becoming part of the William & Mary community.
I visited SUNY Cortland!
When I visited SUNY Cortland, I immediately felt at home. The campus had such a welcoming atmosphere, and everyone I met was friendly and supportive. I could easily picture myself studying here and being part of the gymnastics team. The programs, the energy, and the sense of purpose I felt on campus all felt so comforting to me!
I dream of working with children in a meaningful way. Lately, I’ve been drawn to becoming an occupational therapist, helping children develop the skills they need to grow and thrive. Brown University interests me because of its beautiful campus, strong academic programs, and the opportunity to be part of its gymnastics team.
Thank You for the Support
My father graduated from Rutgers University in Camden. Visiting Rugter was great. I really enjoyed the team and practicing upgrading my skills.
