Fall 2025-Spring 2026
Welcome to the AI FAST Faculty Team Site!
This site is a shared space for faculty participating in the Empowering Rural Education: Generative AI and Student-Centered Learning initiative at College of the Siskiyous. Funded by the California Learning Lab, this grant-funded project supports a faculty cohort engaging in collaborative professional development around AI and teaching from Fall 2025 through Spring 2026.
This space will be used to co-create and curate instructional modules, share ideas and resources, and document the learning process. As a faculty cohort, we are exploring how generative AI can support student-centered pedagogy, particularly in rural and CTE contexts.
Our Community of Practice (CoP) model encourages active peer exchange and inquiry. Members bring both questions and expertise, supporting one another as we navigate the evolving landscape of teaching with AI.

Our AI FAST project is a year-long, grant-funded initiative designed to help College of the Siskiyous faculty and our rural community navigate the rapid changes brought by generative AI.
The project creates a Community of Practice where faculty can:
Build foundational knowledge of generative AI tools and trends
Explore discipline-specific applications for teaching, learning, and workforce readiness
Develop and share practical, AI-integrated instructional materials
Address ethical, equity, and policy considerations in a rural context
Generative AI is reshaping education, work, and daily life. Rural communities like Siskiyou County face unique challenges—limited internet access, fewer local training opportunities, and the need for tools that are relevant to small schools, local industries, and community needs. Our project ensures that faculty members have the skills, resources, and support to adapt thoughtfully and effectively.
Our year together is designed to combine flexibility, hands-on learning, and collaborative support so you can explore AI in meaningful, sustainable ways. We’ll begin in the summer with a self-paced @ONE course on generative AI, giving you time to build a solid foundation at your own pace before the semester begins. In the fall, we’ll gather for three interactive training sessions, each focused on practical, discipline-specific strategies for integrating AI into teaching. These sessions will be highly interactive, giving you space to try tools, workshop ideas, and get peer feedback.
By the end of the fall term, you’ll have developed a complete teaching module or set of materials—including clear guidelines for AI use in your course, at least one student-facing activity, and an AI-enhanced assignment or resource—that you can put into practice right away. In the spring, our Community of Practice will continue meeting to refine these materials, share deliverables, and exchange honest feedback about what’s working and where the challenges are.
Throughout the year, the insights and examples we gather will go beyond our own classrooms—our shared experiences will form the basis of a practical guide for other rural-serving institutions, offering unique perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of implementing AI in contexts like ours. Along the way, you’ll gain tools, strategies, and a strong network of colleagues committed to navigating this rapidly changing landscape together.
By the end of this year-long Community of Practice, participants will have:
Completed a self-paced foundational training on generative AI through @ONE.
Developed and implemented a teaching module or set of instructional materials
Shared and refined their materials through ongoing collaboration and peer feedback in the Community of Practice.
Contributed to a collective resource—a practical guide for rural-serving institutions—that documents effective strategies, challenges, and examples of AI integration drawn from our unique context.
Built a network of support among colleagues committed to navigating AI’s evolving role in education, ensuring sustained conversation and resource sharing beyond the life of the grant.
