Welcome to the AI for Education Day at the KDD 2026 conference.
Advances in data mining and artificial intelligence are opening new opportunities to understand and improve learning at scale. Educational settings—ranging from K–12 and higher education to online and workplace learning—produce rich, complex data that remain underexplored by the broader KDD community. The AI for Education Special Day at KDD 2026 aims to highlight education as a compelling and impactful application domain for knowledge discovery, while surfacing the unique methodological, ethical, and practical challenges it presents. This Special Day is designed to bring together educational researchers and data scientists from both academic and industry contexts, creating a venue for sustained cross-community exchange. By aligning advances in AI and data mining with educational theory, practice, and real-world constraints, the event seeks to foster collaborations that move beyond isolated case studies toward scalable, responsible, and impactful AI for education research. Invited speakers will offer diverse perspectives on open problems, emerging directions, and opportunities for partnership at the intersection of KDD and education.
