SLOS (A-F)
SLO A: Rhetorical Situation and Genre played a big role in both of the Major Writing Assignments. Each assignment had its own genre, MWA 1 being a proposal essay, meant that I was arguing for something to happen. This meant that the targeted audience was people who played a role in my selected subject. I was arguing for more attention to be brought to the emotional problems that accompany and STD. MWA 2 was an Expository essay, so it was informative. The goal was to use as little bias as possible. The targeted audience was anybody interested in AI's effects on education. The genre of the Major Writing assignments vastly effected the outcomes.
SLO B: Writing as a Social Act played a major role in MWA 1 and 2. Each MWA was written with a certain audience in mind. MWA 1, was people in the medical industry, and people who had some sort of connection to STDs. MWA 2 was targeted towards anyone who carries an interest in AI's effects on the education system. MWA 1 was more of a call to arms, to bring awareness to the emotional consuquences of carrying an STD. MWA 2 was purely informational. There was no call for action or demand that something be done. It was purely Informative
SLO C: Writing as a Process played a major role in both Major Writing assignments this semester. I followed the same process for both MWA's however the outcomes were vastly different. The first step of my process was top brainstorm ideas and topics of interest. I then did research into my selected topic. This was followed up by a brain dump, in the form of a rough draft. The rough draft was no where near the quality that I desired for the final but I had to start somewhere. After some tidying up of the rough draft, I had a friend peer review it. Finally, after the rough draft came the final essay.
SLO D: Grammar and Usage was important to both MWA's this semester. Each MWA required its own tone/ grammar. The argumentative aspect of MWA1 required an argumentative tone, this tone added bias to the essay and was effective for passing on my desired message. MWA 2 being an expository essay, required a more neutral tone and a lack of bias. The grammar used in biased essays and non biased differs. For exapmple in biased essays grammar is more posessive, and tends to carry an opinion.
SLO E: Reflection has caused me to look back on everything I have learned this semester. Prior to this semester I had very little knowledge on the difference between different types of essays. I was unaware how vastly different my mindset would be depending on the genre of essay I was writing. I believe this new information will be very helpful for my future, and a cornerstone in how I write papers in the future. I have also solidified my usage of other writing techniques like figurative language and grammar usage.
SLO F: Research played a massive role in both Major Writing Assignments. My method of research was very similar for both MWA's EVen though the genre varied I still had very specific topics. I searched for information on my topics using related key words. The result were many related sites. I looked for sites with .org or .gov in them because those sites tend to be more reliable. Finally, I looked at the information in each and chose my sources.
