On 15 May 2025, members of the AIChE NEDUET Student Chapter visited Lotte Chemical Pakistan’s flagship Port Qasim facility — the country’s only world-class producer of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), with an annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes.

Guided by plant engineers, students toured the manufacuting facility marked by disitllation columns, large storage tanks and accompanying pumps, along with heat exchanger networks. The walkthrough highlighted each major stage of PTA production, from catalytic oxidation of para-xylene to crystallization and drying of the final product.

The visit offered valuable insights into large-scale chemical operations, process optimization, and industrial safety practices. Interactions with Lotte’s engineering team gave students a realistic perspective on career opportunities within the petrochemical sector, while reinforcing the vital role chemical engineers play in delivering quality, efficiency, and innovation.

AIChE NEDUET proudly conducted two industrial visits to Lucky Core Industries, a part of Yunus Brothers Group, which specializes in making polyester, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, soda ash, and veterinary medicines. On January 17 and 24, 2025, accompanied by esteemed faculty members, students explored:

1. Polyurethane Plant – A versatile polymer used in foams, coatings, adhesives, and industrial applications.

2. Masterbatches Plant – Concentrated mixtures of pigments and additives used to enhance the properties and color of plastics. 

Students explored the masterbatch production unit, which specializes in the manufacturing of color and additive concentrates used to enhance the performance and appearance of plastic products. This unit serves as the backbone for industries reliant on high-quality plastic manufacturing, showcasing cutting-edge technology and precision processes.

Under the expert guidance of Mr. Muhammad Umer Chishty (Manager Production & Quality Assurance) and Mr. Saud Hassan (Manager Operations & Projects),  and accompanied by Chemical Engineering Department's Lecturers Mr. Talha Hasan Khan and Mr. Muhammad Hasnain, the visit turned into an enriching learning experience. Both mentors shared valuable insights into the production processes, quality management, and operational strategies, patiently answering our queries and making the technical aspects easily understandable.

On 18th November 2022, 𝐀𝐈𝐂𝐡𝐄 arranged it's first industrial visit to one of the leading multi-national industry "𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐋𝐭𝐝" with the collaboration and support of 𝐃𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐮𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐦𝐢, Chairman Chemical Engineering Department NEDUET.

The following visit provided an indepth insight of HSE(Health and Safety rules), Emergency Response Plans at the operations site and several strategies for environmental emissions control.A detailed informatory briefing about Occupational Safety, Sustainability, maintenance and control was also provided.

This visit was undoubtedly a source of immense practical knowledge and experience of various unit operations like waste water treatment,solid waste management, sustainability goals and endorsement.

The staff at Archroma was absolutely supportive and comprehensive in enlightening us with the profound knowledge of all these major fields, which in turn enhanced the industrial experience .

𝐀𝐈𝐂𝐡𝐄 along with the coordination of Chemical Engineering Department arranged the second visit to"𝐓𝐫𝐢-𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝" on 23-11-2022.

𝐓𝐫𝐢-𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤, a plastic manufacturing industry, is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan and Packages Limited of Pakistan.

The whole visit was conducted in an organized and timely fashion.The students got to know about the history of Tri-Pack—how they started off by producing Biaxially Orientated Polypropylene (BOPP) films in 1993, and have continued growing since to make Cast Polypropylene (CPP) films as well. The students got to visit the Production, Health and Safety, and other relevant departments as well which helped them to get a better insight on how things work at 𝐓𝐫𝐢-𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝.

AICHE NEDUET with the coordination of Chemical Engineering Department NED University arranged an industrial visit to the esteemed MATCO FOODS , one of the prime food processing industry in Pakistan.The day was 3rd May, 2023.

The visit provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the food industry via a tour of the facility where advanced machineries and seasoned engineers were deployed. Interactions with the management and staff helped the students to grasp a better sense of work. Students learned about the production processes and discussed industrial challenges and opportunities. This visit surely helped the students to preview the challenges faced by a process engineer and about the equipments they need to master in order to help the industry to maximize it's growth.

A visit to DG cement ,one of the renowned and largest industry for cement manufacturing in Pakistan, arranged by AIChE had been undoubtedly a prolific experience in terms of abundant information and practical exposur about Cement Industry. The visit highlighted how the company complies strictly with safety standards and codes and promotes a safe work culture. An illustration of cement's complete processing and production from raw material handling, unit operations, pyro processes, storage, and packaging, along with the chemistry behind the manufacturing was perfectly disseminated.

The maintenance of the major equipments like kiln and pyro reactor, and utilization of various kinds of rollers and crushers for carrying out the operations best depicted the practical implementation of the theoretical high-performance knowledge we have gained so far. The high performance quality control and assurance technologies that are employed from scratch processing captured the limelight, this included the, latest technologies like CNA (Control Neutron Analyser)checking.

The keen monitoring and check on the composition of the final product as well as the intermediate and raw products promises the high quality of cement production at DG Cement. The engineers during our visit enlightened us with the how the sourcing of raw materials is carried out in appropriate proportions, the underground processes, the way of carrying blasting, the clinker formation and its   physiochemical nature.

The towering columns, reactors, and preheaters were mesmerizing to witness throughout the site. We came to know about the global footprint of the produced cement and the compliance with environmental regulations and permissibilities. Moreover, , the presentation session included information regarding the importers of this cement which included more than 10 countries and that it is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified. The company has 4 site locations for plant setups, two at Dera Ghazi Khan, one at Lasbela and one at Hub (Balochistan).

In the end, the company offered a  delightful refreshment as well. All in all, it had been a fruitful experience for all and  AICHE is proud to be the organizer of such a great visit. The visit turned out to be a grand experience for the students as it gave them an in-depth insight into the largest processing industry.
