The Walt Disney Company is very fluent in their distribution practices. Disney has previously released their films and television productions through the traditional release methods, dating back to the earliest of methods such as VHS tapes, to DVDs, and to movie theaters. However, Disney has recently obtained a new way to distribute the layers of content that they have amasses over the past decades: their new streaming service, Disney+. Disney+ launched on November 12th, 2019, in the United States and other countries, later coming to many more. While new to the popular fad that is the creation of a streaming service, Disney did not hesitate to release a myriad of content through it. For example, The Mandalorian (2019-), a Star Wars show that has gained a large fanbase after its successful first season and its upcoming second one, has been marketed as a main Disney+ exclusive television series, a show that can sell people on subscriptions. Other content has also been released through this streaming service to add to its marketability, such as Hamilton (2020), a popular musical based off of the life of America's Alexander Hamilton, and the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2014, 2020), a finale for a show that was previously cancelled but revived by its creators. Movies that were initially meant for widespread release in a multitude of theater chains, such as Onward (2020) and the live action adaptation of Mulan (2020), were instead released on Disney+ as a way for more people to watch these films due to the current COVID-19 pandemic of late 2019 and 2020, with Pixar Animation Studios' upcoming film, Soul (2020), also being altered from its theatrical release to a digital one on Christmas day. Disney's ability to distribute content through Disney+ while a pandemic has caused many films to have their theatrical releases limited by the COVID-19 pandemic acts as a testament to Disney's distribution processes, as they still find ways to give their fans the content that they want to see, whether that be family friendly animated films or action films for more mature audiences.
