The Asians in Animation Pilot Pre-Production Program (4P) is a part of the Animation Industry Immersive Lab initiative, designed to provide experience to emerging Asian animation professionals with the skills and experience needed to thrive in the animation industry.
Through hands-on animation industry simulation in across two phases, we hope to produce a professional-level pilot animatic alongside a full production crew.
Dates: October 2024 - May 2025
To create a 22 minute pilot animatic alongside a "ready to ship" design package, simulating the pre-production process done at many studios.
For creatives to create pieces for their portfolios
For participants to gain hands-on experience in a simulated production mirrored after a real studio pipeline and schedule.
Approximate Assignments By Role :
(will vary based on role and hiring, to be updated post-script)
Estimated ~20 hours a week for all roles.
Production Team: Assist teams by department, may potentially stay on for entire duration of program
Script Writers: 5-10 pages per writer, 2 weeks per draft
Storyboard Team: 1-2 sequences/3-5 pages per artist, 3 weeks per phase (thumbs/cleans), 6-7 weeks total
Design Team: 1-4 designs per artist per week for 3 weeks, 3-12 designs total
Edit Team: 5-10 minutes of edited animatic per 2 weeks, 3 rounds, 6-7 weeks total
Storyboard Revisionists will revise boards during animatic build.
This program is only open to registered AIA members of Asian descent.
This is not intended to be a program for beginners that need extensive training, but rather industry-ready or those ready to move up to the next level in their career. Applicants should have a strong understanding of how their artwork can be applied to a production pipeline and be eager to create.
Candidates from any location are welcome to apply. This program is 100% virtual, but will be based out of the Pacific Time Zone. There may also be an optional in-person screening at the end of the program.
Ideal Candidates are not only great at their work, but are nice teammates who look out for others and think about the collective well-being of the production.
Industry experience is not required. Previous filmmaking experience is preferred, but not required.
