Over the past weeks, we have conducted training on research methodology, and Data training. The participants cover students-undergraduates and postgraduate-, academic and non academic staff. Our specific focus on research methodology covers extensive and practical training on the use of Google apps for research and learning, research designs, techniques and ethics. Also, we have covered concepts on data literacy, importance of Artificial Intelligence in learning and research. We have introduced the concepts associated with the use of Excel, PowerBI, and Python training. Our journey to AI learning continues this week.

Data Literacy
Students were introduced to the fundamentals of Data Literacy, a crucial skill set that encompasses the ability to accurately read, comprehend, generate, and effectively communicate using data. The training also covered methods for interpreting data, enabling them to make well-informed decisions and apply data-driven approaches to problem-solving efficiently. In addition, they were acquainted with the concepts of Artificial Intelligence and Business Intelligence, expanding their understanding of how technology can drive smarter decision-making and enhance business strategies.

Microsoft Excel
The training focused on Microsoft Excel, a crucial and sophisticated tool for data analytics. The training covered basic Excel tools and functions, including excel shortcuts, general formatting, mathematical functions, text manipulation, statistical analysis, logical operations, as well as date and time functions, among others.

The training progressed with an in-depth exploration of Microsoft Excel, delving into more advanced functions particularly relevant to data analysis. This included topics such as VLOOKUP for cross-referencing data, string manipulation for text data processing, the creation and customization of charts for visual data representation, HLOOKUP for horizontal data search, and the utilization of Pivot Tables and Charts for summarizing and analyzing large datasets.
Hands on Training (Fifth and Sixth Week)
Python Class
Our hands-on training swiftly progressed through Python and PowerBI classes, moving at a brisk pace due to the impending conclusion of the program. Despite the tight timeline, we dedicated approximately 10 hours to thoroughly explore Python. This intensive effort, spanning long hours over a short period, allowed us to achieve our objectives. Students were introduced to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science, setting the stage for advanced learning.
The course began with an introductory session on setting up essential tools, including the installation of Anaconda and Jupyter Notebooks, along with a primer on basic Python coding. Participants were then guided through the machine learning development workflow, covering critical topics such as exploratory data analysis, supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, data collection, cleaning, and preparation for model development, culminating in the building and deployment of models. This comprehensive approach ensured that students gained a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of the field.
PowerBI Class
The Power BI segment of our training was notably engaging, lighting up the room with smiles as students quickly grasped its concepts and saw immediate results. This segment underscored the fun and dynamic nature of learning, especially with a tool as powerful and user-friendly as Power BI, often regarded as an advanced extension of Excel. The pace was brisk, ensuring that students remained engaged and excited as they successfully navigated through the various functionalities and capabilities of Power BI.
Students embarked on a comprehensive journey, starting with connecting to and transforming data, understanding relationships and data modeling, and delving into data analysis using DAX. They learned the art of visualizing and formatting data to tell compelling stories. The curriculum also covered practical skills such as applying filters in Power BI, navigating between pages, incorporating slicers for dynamic reports, and finally, publishing reports and even creating dashboards. This segment of the training was a testament to the effectiveness of our hands-on approach, enabling students to learn a great deal and confidently apply their new skills.
