As part of our OER we have prepared a two-stage interactivity to let you learn about and assess a few different AI chatbots / tutors.
Below are links to 3 startups and products which aim to become mainstream AI technologies in the field of education. Review at least 2 of them before moving to the main activity in step 2. As you look at each of these AI chatbot-focused educational ventures, think about these questions:
Korbit is a new AI tutor system designed in Montreal. Having just officially launched the product in the last few weeks, this educational startup provides a self-contained chatbot style AI tutor.
First review some information about the company behind this product here.
After that, we want to invite you to try out Korbit as a user here. You can enroll to their free course on machine learning here. We recommend that unless you have a strong math background, only complete the first section or two. This will give you a sense of the experience for learners and allow you to start to assess the value opportunity of the product.
If you are interested, you can also watch the 2 videos, which include an interview with the CEO of Korbit done during the launch event on May 24, 2019.
Differ is a Norwegian startup focusing on developing an AI-based chat / chatbot app for teachers and students. The main purpose of this venture is to increase student interaction by using chatbots to create connections between people. Have a look at the information on their product website here.
For more information about the product development timeline for Differ, you can review their product roadmap here.
Inforobo is a chatbot-style tutoring system using audio recognition. Designed by Brainasoft, an AI company providing services ranging from voice recognition to machine learning.
Here is a video showing a sample of Inforobo’s AI chatbot tutor.
You can also check Brainasoft's company site here.
To give everyone a chance to reflect on and interact with the educational ventures presented here, we have created 3 padlets below. Each of these focuses on one of the AI chatbot ventures presented here (Korbit, Differ and Inforobo). As EVAs you are asked to do the following:
1. Scroll down to the padlets and prepare to post some of your thoughts about the questions from the pre-activity in relation to 2 different chatbot ventures you reviewed.
2. Before you write and post your own thoughts, read the 'reviews' already posted by your fellow EVAs from our course. Your own post should aim to add new ideas to the discussion, so you can either reply to questions/comments from earlier posts or try to provide new thoughts that will extend the range of ideas shared by the group.
Why do this?
Apart from everyone having a chance to learn from each other, once Week 7 is finished our team will review and summarize the comments and feedback about each chatbot and we will provide a version of this to each of the companies/teams behind the 3 chatbots you reviewed here. We will share with the class any response to our group feedback before the end of the course.
