There is no doubt that several facets of human life, especially education, are being renovated by Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI technology is being utilized in universities and schools to assist teachers, improve learning experiences, and better educational results.
Benefits of AI in Education
Tailored Learning - Students can use AI to learn since it can offer them personalized assignments and lessons. The custom-made learning experiences will help the students to improve their academic scores as AI can help them to identify their weaknesses, learning styles, and strengths and how to handle them (Baidoo-Anu & Ansah, 2023).
Immediate Feedback - AI-powered assessment tools can provide instant feedback to students. Instant feedback helps them understand their mistakes and make corrections promptly, which can lead to faster progress (Pillera, 2023).
Accessibility - With the advent of AI, students can now easily access education. This can be beneficial especially to students with disabilities. Moreover, AI offers assistive technologies such as speech-to-text technologies to aid diverse learning requirements (Baidoo-Anu & Ansah, 2023).
Teacher Support - It is imperative to note that teachers benefit from AI by automating administrative tasks like grading. As a result, teachers can get more time to concentrate on mentoring and teaching students. Limitations of AI in Education
Lack of Human Interaction - While AI can support learning, it cannot replace the essential human element of education. Building relationships with teachers and peers is crucial for holistic development (Pillera, 2023).
Data Privacy Concerns - AI systems collect a lot of data about students, which raises privacy concerns. It's vital to ensure that this data is used ethically and securely (Baidoo-Anu & Ansah, 2023).
Equity Issues - Students need access to the same technology and resources. AI in education may exacerbate inequalities if it needs to be implemented thoughtfully.
Limited Subject Coverage - AI is excellent for subjects that can be easily digitized, but it may need help with teaching creative or hands-on skills (Pillera, 2023).
Technical Challenges - Implementing AI in education requires technical infrastructure and expertise, which may only be available in some schools and regions.
Conclusion
AI can enhance learning in tailoring content, immediate responses, and helping educators. Even so, AI has several limitations including worries on privacy interruption, lack of human interaction, and equity problems. There is a need to balance technology and humanity to improve instead of replacing the student’s learning experiences.
