Identifying the right psychotherapist can be a critical step towards making meaningful change in one’s life. The treatment we provide offers collaborative discussion in a safe space, with an experienced clinical psychologist, who can provide an empathic and constructive perspective. We incorporate object relations and self-psychological theory into our practice and value the importance of a focused approach.
Psychotherapy grants the patient a chance to examine beliefs and feelings about self and other, gain a clearer understanding of long-standing behavioral and relational patterns, and thereby create new opportunity for choosing more effective and healthy ways of being. The psychotherapy process can lead to clarification of self-defeating patterns and self-sabotaging behaviors, reinforcement of psychological strengths, restoration of a sense of stability, and enhancement of familial, social and work relationships. The goal is to create lasting change in one’s emotional life.
There are many reasons to seek psychotherapy. They include the experience of anxiety or depression, obsessive thoughts or compulsive behaviors, post-trauma or loss reactions, and difficulty managing anger. Such mood-related symptoms often lead to dips or fluctuations in self-esteem, social passivity, aggressivity or ineffectiveness, or a sense of alienation and isolation. We work with individuals struggling with relationship impasses or betrayals, separations or divorce. We help with health crises, career concerns, parenting challenges, and any number of life stresses. Finally, we both work with children of all ages, separately, and/or within the context of the family. Children’s issues often include any number of anxieties or fears, difficulties complying with expectations at home or school, and identity emergence and confusion.
