Typical Activities

Below is a list of activities the band typically does in the fall.

Newark Days Parade
 The band's first parade is their longest. We will also hold our Parade-a-thon at the same event, where students get pledges for each time the march is performed.

High School Band Day
 The band performs at a college football game in a combined band half-time show. 

Feste Del Mar Field Show

This is an evening field show competition, in San Jose

Football Field Shows & Homecoming
 The band performs in the stands and at half-time for their fellow students at home football games.

Band Mini-camps
 The band will get to re-visit band camp as we make our final preparations for the marching season.

Halloween Parade (optional, extra credit)
 Members of the band perform at the annual Candlelighters Halloween Parade. Students dress in Halloween costume. Food, drinks, and tickets to the Ghost House are typically provided. 

Vintage Reserve Field Show
 This is an evening field show competition, in Napa. 

11-11 – Veterans' Day Parade
 We annually perform at the Veterans' Day Parade, in downtown San Jose. (No performance in 2023 or 2024.)

 Rodriguez Tournament of Champions
 This last performance of the parade and field show is the culmination of all the hard work and dedication the students have put in since band camp in August. We will also compete in concert competition with our Symphonic Band.

Fri. - Niles Festival of Lights (optional, extra credit)
 The band will perform at the Niles Festival of Lights Parade, the day after Thanksgiving.

Winter Concert

The Marching Band performs one last time at the Winter Concert, indoors.


Winter Season

Members of the band and color guard continue in the extra-curricular winter season. This is an opportunity for members to compete in solo performance or to join groups that they might not have been able to join in the fall. Other (non-music program) students are invited to join Winter Guard and Winter Percussion to experience what these programs have to offer and to possibly join fall Marching Band, in later seasons.
