JoAnn Outten Kenton is a professional handcyclist competing under the brand A Hip Journey—a name that reflects a powerful story of resilience, redemption, and unwavering faith.
After a life-altering hip injury in 2008 and a right leg amputation in 2022, JoAnn took her first steps in 14 years with a prosthetic in 2023. That same year, she discovered handcycling—a sport that offered freedom, challenge, and independence without medical assistance or mobility devices. With support from the IM Able Foundation, she began training, racing, and reclaiming a life of movement and purpose.
In the 2024–2025 season, JoAnn competed at the highest level, earning:
1st Place – Boston Marathon
1st Place – U.S. Cycling National Championships
2nd Place – Marine Corps Marathon
3rd Place – U.S. Paracycling Time Trial
As her platform grows, JoAnn regularly appears in media interviews and public events, wearing her branded jersey and using her story to spotlight perseverance, inclusion, and the power of faith.
