A Hip Journey began in November 2008 with a hip injury that forever changed the trajectory of my life. What followed was more than a decade of pain, surgeries, and searching—for healing, for peace, and for purpose. Through it all, one thing remained constant: my faith in Jesus. Even when the path felt unclear, I knew I wasn’t walking it alone.
In August 2022, I underwent a right leg amputation—an ending, but also a beginning. In 2023, I received my prosthetic leg and took my first steps in 14 years. With less pain and a stronger body, I started to wonder: What else is possible now?
That’s when I found handcycling.
At an adaptive sports expo, I sat in a handcycle for the first time. With no braces, crutches, or prosthetics—just me and the bike—I felt truly free. Handcycling doesn’t rely on my legs. It’s powered by my arms, my will, and most importantly, my faith. That moment awakened something in me. I remembered my love of sports from years ago, and I realized that part of me didn’t have to be lost.
With help from the IM Able Foundation, I acquired my first handcycle and began training. What started as a personal milestone quickly turned into a competitive journey. In the 2024–25 season, I raced in four major events:
1st Place, Boston Marathon
1st Place, US Cycling National Championships
2nd Place, Marine Corps Marathon
3rd Place, US Paracycling Time Trial
Each race is more than a finish line—it’s a platform to glorify God and inspire others facing their own battles. I regularly appear in media interviews and community events, using A Hip Journey to share a message of resilience, movement, and faith.
A Hip Journey is a testimony to God’s faithfulness in every season. After years of pain, surgery, and uncertainty, I found new life through Christ and movement through handcycling. This journey isn’t just about racing—it’s about reflecting His strength, sharing hope, and showing that with faith, even the most difficult roads can lead to purpose. Through sport, storytelling, and unwavering belief, I aim to inspire others to move forward—boldly, joyfully, and by His grace.
