Our Purpose: The mission of the Abington Heights Astronomy Club is to educate club members about science, astronomy, and space exploration. Through lessons and activities, participants are provided with the tools and knowledge to understand the night sky and explore it for themselves. Instructional exercises and lectures related to the material engage members with the subject in a fun and simple way. Our meetings provide a venue for members to enjoy their shared interest and passion for astronomy together.
Why Join?: As the astronomer Carl Sagan once said, "astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience." Studying our night sky provides us with a sense of perspective on our place in the universe unlike any other hobby or field of study. It teaches us about the origins of everything we know, how the cosmos behaves, and where our place in the universe is. Unlike other sciences, anyone in any place can become an astronomer. It only requires the simple effort of looking up at the stars and appreciating the universe we live in. The night sky encourages us to learn more at every opportunity. For these reasons, we invite you to join us in exploring and learning about astronomy.
