In AHG, girls ages 5-18 meet together as a single Troop at the same time. This allows Girl Members the social experience of interacting with friends and Godly mentors as well as learning leadership skills through interacting with younger girls in a large-group setting. Troop NY-0518 had Girl Levels from Pathfinders to Explorers, ages 5 through 10 participating in our Troop during our second Troop Year, last year, 2023-2024.
A Troop’s Program Year should be designed to move the Troop toward their Troop vision. Troop visions are God-given, and they help a Troop use the AHG Program to achieve the missions of both their Charter Organization and American Heritage Girls. Troop NY-0518's Vision is located on the Home Page of this website. American Heritage Girls also has a national theme to unify the Troops together across the country. The 2024-2025 official national theme is "VISION."
The National Honor Troop Award (NHTA) is a tool that showcases key components of a successful Troop year: Faith, Service, and Fun, Troop administration, maintaining important relationships, incorporating the six Program Emphases, Troop presentation via the AHG Uniform, recognition, and Kingdom Growth. We refer to NHTA guidelines often to help us balance our Troop Year programming. NHTA offers three levels that the Troop can work toward earning. In our first year, Troop NY-0518 achieved Honor Troop Year One!
It can be helpful to think about your Troop’s Year program like an ice cream sundae. There are three scoops of ice cream in the bowl: Faith, Service, and Fun. Many Troops find success by many volunteers coming together, focusing on balancing those three scoops of ice cream. When a Troop has those three elements balanced, then the Troop is achieving the goal of the AHG Program.
After that, any other program elements the Troop adds— any awards or recognitions, any Patch Programs, leadership workshops, overnight social events, camping, summer camp, High Adventure excursions, etc.—are like sundae toppings they can add to their Troop program a little at a time as the Troop grows and gains experience. The sprinkles are fun opportunities, and they can add a lot to Girl Members’ AHG experience, but don't worry if all you have is three scoops of ice cream! The girls will still be learning and growing as they make friends and memories. As your Troop grows in experience and members, there will be more adult volunteers to help add sprinkles and chocolate sauce as your Troop grows!
Troop NY-0518 requires that every Girlmember has one adult (per family) fulfill a needed volunteer position to help Troop NY-0518. Without this involvement, Troop NY-0518 can not function. We are currently looking at how well our volunteer roster (please view our Volunteers pages for more information) is filled out by our Interest Meeting (8/28/24) to determine how full our schedule will be for the '24-'25 Troop Year. If you are considering getting involved, please Contact us by sending an email to AHGTroopNY0518@Gmail.com . Any events or activities that rely on a volunteer position that has not been filled at the conclusion of our Interest Meeting (8/28/24) will not occur.
