Hi, I’m Dr. Aleksandra Herman, a cognitive neuroscientist at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, specialising in interoception, brain–body interaction, and human behaviour. 

What I do

I investigate how bodily signals (interoception) influence human behaviour and decision-making, and the neural mechanisms underlying these effects. I also study what happens when body–brain communication malfunctions, for example in chronic pain conditions.

My work uses a combination of behavioural assessments, mood manipulations, pharmacological interventions, physiological monitoring, and neuroimaging methods.
