This website serves as a place anyone can access all of our virtual forums and events!
Mission of the Project
This project will focus on providing information to students and adults regarding ways to include diversity and inclusion in everyday life. Additionally, this project will encourage students and adults to incorporate the four interrelated principles of social justice into their lives: equity, access, participation, and human rights.
Get Involved
For my project, I will be hosting virtual forums to cover social justice issues such as voter suppression and cultural appropriation in the media. I would love for everyone who visits my website to participate in these forums and spread the word! For more information on upcoming events, click the button at the end of this page! In addition to the virtual forums, I am forming a new older girl program with the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta Council to give older girls in Girl Scouts a voice in their council. Equity
Equity is not the same as equality. An equitable society considers the differences between two people, adjusting to benefit the person who needs the most help. While “unequal” according to a strict definition, equity leads to a society with reduced inequalities.
Access
To serve the people, a healthy society must offer services and resources. These include access to education, healthcare, shelter, and food.
Participation
Society must allow everyone to voice their concerns and take part in making decisions. If something affects a person’s life, that person needs to be a part of the process. To increase access, society must remove barriers to participation.
Human Rights
Human rights and social justice are two sides of the same coin. They can’t exist apart from each other. For a society to be just, it must ensure the protection of everyone’s civil, political, economic, cultural, and social rights. These rights include the right to life, the right to free speech, the right to vote, the right to a fair trial, and so on.
