Eliza M Henderson Taylor to Guignard & Fisher Power of Attorney 14 September 1822 Know all men by these presents that whereas by a decision of the court of equity in and for district of richland, state of south carolina, a certain number of slaves were decreed to be the property of the children of Eliza M Henderson wife of Simon Taylor, and that the said slaves were to remain in the hands of the said Eliza during her lifetime. And whereas the said simon taylor and his aofresaid wife Eliza M Henderson removing to the sate of louisiana in the year 1818 left one of said slaves called Anna agaes about twenty two or twenty three years & her son a boy called Henry by reason of said Anna having a husband and being unwilling to be brought to the state of louisiana and it being for the interest & advantage of the children of the said Eliza M Henderson and also to her own interst, that the said Anna & child or their value should be in their prossession & enjoyment, and it being contrary to the dictates of nature and the feelings and wishes of the said Eliza M Henderson and her children to take away the said Anna & child from the husband and parent and a proposition having been made by William Taylor of the aforesaid district of Richland to the said eliza m henderson & her children to give in exchange other slaves for said Anna & child. Wherefore in consideration of the promises the said Eliza M Henderson of the aforesaid state of louisiana and parish of st landry and emma l. taylor one of her children of said state of louisiana and parish of st. mary and john b murphy husband of the said Emma (the other children of the said Eliza being minors, have given and they do hereby give their consent to and express their wish that an exchange as aforesaid should be effected. And for that puporse they do by these presents authorizae andempower James Guignard and Doctor Edward Fisher or either of them to institute the proper proceedings or process in the equity court of said district of richland in the aforesaid state of sourth carolina, to effect said exchange.,......
