The problem of water scarcity and wastage is a significant challenge in agriculture, as water is a crucial input for crop growth and yield. It is faced by the farmers of all over the country during the irrigation process in their farms. Without proper water supply, crops cannot develop, and their yield and quality suffer. However, providing too much water can also be harmful to crop growth and yield, leading to waterlogging and other problems.
One of the biggest challenges that farmers face is determining the appropriate amount of water required for their crops. In the absence of accurate measurements of soil moisture levels and water requirements, farms often reault to over-irrigation, which leads to water wastage and reduced crop yield. On the other hand, under-irrigation can lead to reduced crop yield and quality.
Another challenge that farmers face is the wastage of water due to inefficient irrigation practices. Some farmers keep their pumps on for several hours to provide estimated water, which results in the wastage of a large amount of fresh water. Also most farmers need to travel nearly 10 to 15 km to reach their field to just turn on or off the water pump.
Another issue related to water use in agriculture is the depletion of groundwater resources. As farmers extract water from underground resources to irrigate their crops, the water table drops, leading to a reduction in the amount of available water.
