Climate Change

The Carbon Cycle

The Carbon Cycle, (similar to the Water Cycle) is the movement of carbon (C) through the biosphere, pedosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere of the Earth. The four main exchanges of C is photosynthesis, decomposition, respiration and combustion. There are various things that affect the amount of C on Earth. Such as deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. Livestock also play an important role in the cycle.

The Greenhouse Effect

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas (GHG). GHGs trap energy from the sun in the form of heat in the atmosphere. Therefore, more GHGs present will trap more heat - increase in temperature. The abundance of GHGs in the atmosphere are the cause for increasing temperatures consequently leading to climate change. Methane is another GHG which can be produced by cow burps and farts.

As the name hints, the climate is being changed. The very destruction of a stable climate is performed by those who depend on it the most - agriculture. However, not just our food systems are impacted by changes in the average temperature and extreme weather events but also all living things on the planet.
