The Great Pyramids

The Great Pyramids of Giza consisted of Menkaure, Khufu, and Khafre. These pyramids where built in the southwestern outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. These pyramids where built from roughly 2550 to 2490 B.C.

Menkaure

Menkaure was built in 2510 BC by the Egyptians, as a tomb for the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Menkaure. The pyramid is 213 feet tall. The pyramid is made out of limestone, core red granite, and white limestone. The Menkaure Valley Temple was excavated between 1908 and 1910 by George Reisner. He found lots of statues of Menkaure alone and as a member of a group.

Khufu

Khufu was built as a tomb for the king Khufu. The pyramid was constructed around 2560 BCE. The pyramid was built over a 20 year period. Khufu is the tallest of the three pyramids standing at 481 feet tall, the pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for more than 3,800 years. The pyramid was constructed out of limestone and granite.

Khafre

The pyramid of Khafre was built for the third pharaoh of the 4th Dynasty, Khafre. The pyramid was built around 2540 BC. The pyramid stand at 448 feet tall. It was constructed out of limestone. The pyramid took a couple years to excavate from 1853 and 1858.
