As we approach the new academic year in June, we remember the children from underprivileged communities who face challenges in pursuing their education. With their parents working as farmers, labourers, or street vendors; the lack of supplies, uniforms, and basic necessities becomes an obstacle to learning. Without these essentials, many children face challenges even before the school term begins. Their main struggle is due to financial burdens. Parents often cannot afford the needed school supplies, and sometimes, even the basic tuition fees. If the children are able to join school and choose to stay in school against all odds, it still becomes difficult for them as they are expected to work during breaks to help support their families. Children of farmers are expected to assist their parents during harvest season; children of daily-wage labourers and street vendors are expected to do the household chores and take care of their younger siblings while both parents are out the entire day trying to make a living. Given this situation, they are unable to afford new supplies and proper essentials. So, returning to school becomes a matter of overcoming the pressures of poverty while balancing education with their families' financial struggles.

This is where RLF steps in. Our Back-To-School Project focuses on children of low-income families by providing primary school children with school kits that will include all basic supplies needed for the academic year. This year, we have identified 50 students through our ministry partner in the state of Maharashtra; and with proper support, we can provide the essential items—such as backpacks, books, stationary, uniforms, shoes, and other school supplies. These resources help reduce the financial burden on their family and ensure that a student can participate uninterruptedly in class. And supporting these children gives them a chance to break the cycle of poverty and create a future in which they can thrive. The town and surrounding villages represent an area where the Gospel is beginning to take root, but there is still much work to be done to share the hope of salvation.
