On August 6, 2025, Governor Josh Stein announced that North Carolina is now a proud participant in the “Do Your Part” initiative, led by Blue Star Families and the National Governors Association. This statewide commitment aims to improve the quality of life for military families by tailoring state services to meet their unique needs.
North Carolina is home to over 600,000 veterans and the fourth-largest active-duty military population in the U.S., including our very own Seymour Johnson AFB community. This new commitment builds on recent state actions to make life easier for service members and their families—such as:
Allowing deployed or overseas members to renew driver’s licenses more easily
Smoothing the process for enrolling children in new schools after a PCS
Making it simpler for military spouses to transfer professional licenses
Offering tuition discounts at UNC System schools for military families
Why it matters to AFSA Chapter 371:
This initiative strengthens the network of support for enlisted Airmen and their families here in North Carolina. It also opens the door for new partnerships—especially with Blue Star Families—that can help us address key issues like spouse employment, housing, education, and local community support.
Bottom Line: North Carolina is taking concrete steps to make our state one of the best places for military families to live and thrive. AFSA Chapter 371 will continue to advocate for enlisted Airmen and connect our members with new opportunities as they develop.
