Rudo Sithole, docteur ès sciences (PhD), est actuellement consultante en patrimoine et sciences naturelles ainsi que maître de conférences titulaire (Senior Lecturer) à l’université de Zimbabwe. Dr. Sithole enseigne en entomologie en Licence, Masters et Doctorat : cours avancé en bachelor de sciences, médecine légale et le programme de Master en entomologie tropicale. Elle supervise les recherches d’étudiants en MPhil et DPhil notamment en apiculture, entomologie médico-légale, biodiversité des insectes et en écologie. En tant que dernière directrice générale (Executive Director) du Conseil international des musées africains (AFRICOM), ses responsabilités principales consistaient à lever des fonds, développer des partenariats et gérer l’administration générale des projets et du secrétariat. Avant AFRICOM, elle était directrice du Musée d’Histoire naturelle du Zimbabwe où elle coordonnait et gérait les collections du musée, sa sécurité et ses programmes de recherche aussi bien que les sites du Patrimoine mondial dont Khami et Matobo. Anciennement présidente d’ICOM-Zimbabwe et membre de l’ICOM-CIDOC et NATHIST, elle a promu le Code de déontologie de l'ICOM des musées d’Histoire naturelle et accumulé et développé des compétences supérieures en gestion et leadership au sein d’associations professionnelles, instituts de recherches et organisations non-gouvernementales. Elle se réjouit de travailler dans des équipes multidisciplinaires et internationales. L’esprit d’équipe l’anime et en créant des équipes, elle se spécialise en gestion des patrimoines et collections, la recherche entomologique, l’enseignement et la prise de parole devant des publics divers au sujet de la restitution des patrimoines naturels et culturels aux musées, universités et communautés aux pays d’origine.

Rudo Sithole holds a PhD in entomology, is currently a heritage and natural sciences consultantas well as Senior Lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe. Dr. Sithole lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students in entomology degree programs (BSc Honours, Forensic Science, Masters in Tropical Entomology), and conducts and supervises MPhil and DPhil students’ research in the areas of Apiculture, Forensic Entomology, Insect Biodiversity and Ecology as well as heritage/museum-based courses such Collection Management and Curation. As the last Executive Director of the International Council of African Museums (AFRICOM), her main responsibilities at AFRICOM included fundraising, partnership development and overall management of projects and staff. Before joining AFRICOM, she was the Director of the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe where she co-ordinated and managed the museum's collections, security and research programs as well as the World Heritage sites including Khami and Matobo. Dr Sithole, former member of ICOM and previously President of ICOM-Zimbabwe, has been a member of the CODIC and NATHIST committees as well as Vice-President of NATHIST, promoting the ICOM Code of Ethics for Natural History Museums. As a result of diverse career roles, she has accumulated and developed superior leadership and management skills in professional associations, research organizations and non-governmental organizations. She enjoys working with multidisciplinary as well as multi-country teams. A dedicated player and teambuilder, Dr. Sithole specialises in heritage and nonprofits’ management, entomological research and collection management as well as teaching and public speaking on the restitution of natural and cultural heritage to museums, universities, and communities in Africa.

ECH-CHERKI DAHMALI, Co-directeur fondateur / Founding Co-Director (Morocco)

Ech cherki Dahmali est directeur du Musée des Téléommunications à Rabat au Maroc, président d’ICOM-CIMUSET, membre du Conseil consultatif de l’ICOM, du Conseil de programmation académique d’ICOM-IMREC, vice-président d’ICOM-ARAB, vice-président d’ICOM-Maroc et le dernier vice-président d’AFRICOM. Muséologue international dévoué, il est professeur de muséologie à l’Université Sharjah et expert en patrimoine culturel pour la région Maghreb arabe à l’UNESCO, à l’ICESCO et à l’ALECSO ainsi que membre de l’Institut national des sciences archéologiques et patrimoine du ministère de la Culture et ancien président de l’Association des Lauréats de l’Institut national des sciences archéologiques et patrimoine (Maroc). Ech cherki Dahmali a organisé les adhérents africains de l’ICOM et anciens adhérents d’AFRICOM en réponse aux demandes pour la renaissance de l’Organisation en faisant pousser la nouvelle communauté par le biais de Facebook, African Museums/musées africains. Mr. Dahmali parle souvent de manière convaincante du besoin de restituer le patrimoine africain aux musées en Afrique et de la solidarité panafricaine parmi les musées africains épousant cet objectif.

Ech cherki Dahmali is Director of the Morocco Telecommunications Museum in Rabat, President of ICOM-CIMUSET, Member of the ICOM Advisory Council, ICOM-IMREC’s Academic and Programming Board, Vice-President of ICOM-ARAB, Vice-President of ICOM-Morocco and the last Vice President of AFRICOM. A dedicated international museologist, he is professor of museology at Sharjah University and cultural heritage expert for the Maghreb-Arab region at UNESCO, ICESCO, and ALECSO, as well as a Member of the National Institute of Archaeological Sciences and Heritage of the Moroccan Ministry of Culture and former President of the Association of Laureates of the National Institute of Archaeological Sciences and Heritage (Morocco). Ech-Cherki Dahmali has organized ICOM African members and former AFRICOM members in response to revival demands and grown AFRIMUHERE through the Facebook news community African Museums/musées africains. Mr. Dahmali has spoken persuasively on the need to return museum heritage to Africa and pan-African solidarity among African museums with this objective.

SILVIE MEMEL KASSI YOOUL, présidente fondatrice / Founding President (Côte d’Ivoire)

Silvie Memel Kassi Yooul est l’auteure d’une thèse de doctorat de 2018 de l’Institut d’Enseignement supérieure et de recherche régional en développement culturel (IRES-RDEC) à Lomé au Togo. Dr Memel Kassi est actuellement professeure, chercheure et directrice du Musée des Civilisations Côte d’Ivoire. Basée à Abijan, elle est le fer de lance des efforts de son pays pour la restitution des patrimoines culturels de la France dont le tambour parleur, le djidi ayokwe, des peuples Ebrié. Elle est auteure de plusieurs analyses sur les questions de la restitution dont : « Iconoclasm and Restitution : Between Denial and Cultural Realism » (Journal of Ethnographic Theory, 10 (3), 2020) et « The Illicit Circulation of Ivorian Collections : Challenges and Prospects » (Journal for Art Market Studies, 1 (2020). Elle continue à promouvoir la ratification des conventions internationales pour la protection du patrimoine, la Convention de l’UNESCO de 1970, UNIDROIT et la coopération régionale ouest-africaine (CEDAO) et pan-africaine pour relever ce défi.

Silvie Memel Kassi Yooul is the author of a doctoral thesis obtained in 2018 at the Regional Institute of Higher Education and Research in Cultural Development (IRES-RDEC) of Lomé - Togo. Dr. Memel Kassi is currently a professor, researcher and Director of the Museum of Civilizations of Côte d'Ivoire. Based in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), she has been actively spearheading her country’s efforts for a first restitution of cultural heritage from France, the djidi ayokwe, speaking drum of the Ebrié people. She is the author of several analyses of restitution issues, such as « Iconoclasm and Restitution : Between Denial and Cultural Realism » (Journal of Ethnographic Theory, 10 (3), 2020) and on « The Illicit Circulation of Ivorian Collections : Challenges and Prospects » (Journal for Art Market Studies, 1 (2020), has championed ratification of the 1970 UNESCO Convention and UNIDROIT as well as African regional cooperation for the protection of heritage through ECOWAS.

KELETSO GAONE SETLHABI, Secrétaire fondatrice / Founding Secretary (Botswana)

Keletso Setlhabi est à l’Université de Botswana depuis 2011 où elle était Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Actuellement, elle est Maître de Conférences en archéologie. Par le passé, elle a travaillé en tant que gestionnaire des collections au Musée national du Botswana (1993-2004). Dr. Setlhabi est muséologue et porte une attention particulière aux recherches interdisciplinaires en ce qui concerne la culture matérielle tant celle-ci définit et influence la formation des sociétés au passé et au présent. Ses recherches s’inscrivent par conséquent dans des disciplines qui sont orientées par les objets/cultures/patrimoines comme l’archéologie, les études de patrimoine et de muséologie, le patrimoine immatériel et matériel, le patrimoine numériue…Elle est membre du Comité de la documentation de l’ICOM (ICOM-CIDOC). Auparavant, elle était présidente du Comité national de l’ICOM au Botswana (2013-2016) et membre du Conseil de CIDOC (2001-2004). Elle est membre de plusieurs associations professionnelles dont l’association de Botswana des archéologues professionnels (BAAP), l’Association of Critical Heritage Studies et la Society of Africanist Archaeologists (SAFA). Ses qualifications académiques décrivent son parcours : Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), University of Botswana (2010), Masters, Museum Studies, Deakin University (2000), Graduate Diploma (Museum Studies), Deakin University (1999), Bachelor of Arts, Humanities, University of Botswana (1993). Dr. Setlhabi est une militante culturelle enthousiaste et engagée auprès des communautés où elle est membre du Comité du district du patrimoine immatériel Kgatleng et au Conseil d’administration Phuthadikobo.

Keletso Setlhabi joined the University of Botswana in 2011 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Archaeology. She previously worked as Collections Manager at the Botswana National Museum (1993-2004). Dr. Setlhabi is a museologist with an interdisciplinary research interest in the study of material culture and its role in defining and shaping past and present societies. Her research interest is therefore inclined to disciplines that are object/culture/heritage oriented such as archaeology, museum and heritage studies, cultural heritage, intangible cultural heritage and Digital Heritage. She is a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM)/International Committee for Documentation (CIDOC). Previously she was the President of the Botswana National Committee of ICOM (2013-16) and Board member of the International Committee for Documentation (CIDOC) (2001-2004). Her other professional memberships include the Botswana Association of Archaeology Professionals (BAAP), the Association of Critical Heritage Studies and the Society of Africanist Archaeologists (SAFA). Her academic qualifications are Doctor of Philosophy, University of Botswana (2010), Masters of Museum Studies, Deakin University (2000), Graduate Diploma (Museum Studies), Deakin University (1999), B.A. Humanities, University of Botswana (1993). Dr. Setlhabi is an enthusiastic cultural activist involved in community work where she is a member of the Kgatleng Intangible Cultural Heritage District Committee and Phuthadikobo Museum Board of Trustees.

DANIEL KIBET ARAP MITEI, Trésorier fondateur / Founding Treasurer (Kenya)

Jusqu'en 2021, coordinateur pour la région occidentale pour les musées nationaux du Kenya (NMK, Kisumu) et anciennement Coordinateur des programmes publics, Daniel Kibet arap Mitei est actuellement Conservateur en chef au NMK Nairobi où il continue à oeuvrer pour développer et créer des expositions des musées nationaux et notamment dans l’expansion des musées régionaux au Kenya. Il a reçu son Bachelor of Arts de l’Université Chandigarh en Inde, son Master en Paix et Gestion des conflits à Egerton University au Kenya. Trésorier de l’AFRICOM, il continue à travailler sur la conservation et la promotion des patrimoines immatériels et matériels à travers les musées ruraux et sur des sites archéologiques et naturels en gérant aussi les monuments et sites pour le NMK au Kenya.

Until 2021, Western Coordinator, National Museums of Kenya (NMK, Kisumu), and formerly Coordinator for Public Programmes, Daniel Kibet Arap Mitei is presently Senior Curator at NMK Nairobi where he continues to develop and mount exhibitions and assist in the development of regional museums in Kenya. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Chandigarh University, India, and M.A. in Peace and Conflict Management at Egerton University, Kenya. Daniel Mitei was Treasurer of AFRICOM and continues to work on intangible cultural heritage and material cultural heritage preservation through rural museums, at archaeological sites and for historic monuments in Kenya.

VICTORIA PHIRI, Membre fondatrice du Conseil / Founding Member of the Board (Zambia)

Victoria Phiri est historienne culturelle et travaille au Musée Choma en tant que conservatrice (Choma Museum and Crafts Centre). Ayant obtenu son Master en Etudes autochtones de l’Université de Tromso en Norvège, elle est actuellement en études doctorales (PhD) à l’Université de Zambie où ses recherches portent sur l’interprétation des paysages Liuwa, faisant partie du paysage Barotse, que la Zambie propose à l’UNESCO pour son inscription au Patrimoine mondial. Ayant travaillé pour le National Museums Board de Zambia pendant plus de 20 ans, chercheur à deux musées nationaux et aussi directrice à trois musées nationaux en Zambie, Victoria Phiri est spécialiste des cultures et patrimoines zambiens et continue à poursuivre des travaux sur le terrain partout dans le pays en contribuant ainsi aux expositions permanentes aux musées nationaux et aux publications internationales. Victoria Phiri s’acharne à combler le vide entre les musées et les communautés en développant des projets tels que l’ethno-tourisme et la création des musées des communautés en régions rurales. Membre de l’ICOM, elle a servi en tant que secrétaire du Comité international des musées ethnographiques (ICME) et représentante de la région Afrique pour le Comité d’Education et action culturelle (CECA). Elle a organisé la première réunion internationale de CECA en Afrique (Zambie 2014).

Victoria Phiri is a cultural historian currently working as a Curator of Choma Museum and Crafts Centre. With an M.A in Indigenous Studies from the University of Tromso in Norway, she is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Zambia where her study is focusing on the interpretation of the Liuwa landscape, part of the Barotse Landscape, which Zambia has proposed to UNESCO to be enlisted as a World Heritage Site. Having worked for the National Museums Board of Zambia for more than 20 years, as a researcher at two National Museums and also as Director at three National museums of Zambia, Victoria Phiri is a specialist of Zambian cultures and continues to do extensive field research work throughout the country which contributes to permanent exhibitions of the National Museums of Zambia, and international publications. Victoria Phiri has also been instrumental in bridging the gap between museums and the community by championing ethno-tourism projects and the creation of community museums in rural Zambia. Also a member of ICOM, she has served as Secretary of the International Committee of Ethnographic Museums (ICME) and as Africa Regional Representative for the International Committee of Education and Cultural Action (CECA). Credits include successfully organizing and holding the first-ever international CECA regional meeting in Africa (Zambia 2014).
