Every year, Dr. John Stanko, a chair on the AfricaBookBagz board, leads a ministry mission to Kenya through his ministry, PurposeQuest International. On each trip, his team visits with and services alongside of various partners, friends, and family he has established since first visiting the country in 2001. Some points of destination are Karen Academy in Banana, Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet, Dr. John Stanko Academy in Upako, just to name a few.
In 2013, God knitted the hearts of Janet Hansom and Karen Bailey during their mission to Kenya. Once back in the states, they took action and cultivated the vision, mission, and ministry of AfricaBookBagz (ABB).
Since then, ABB has sent two youth abroad to experience a snapshot of life in Kenya, it has diligently aligned itself with local ministries to support and serve the youth in Pittsburgh, PA, and is committed to sharing the unconditional love, gentle touch, and Christ-centered teachings of these mothers with as many youth as possible.
First trip to Kenya - 2012
"Visiting Kenya changed my life. I fell in love with the children, and came home with a huge burden to do something knowing - children in Kenya have little hope and children in America die from gun violence."
First trip to Kenya - 2011
"A mother's love cannot be diminished or destroyed. It endures every storm, heartache, and great distance."
