Updating your firmware on the micro:bit is one of the most important things - it means it will be the most up to date and can be used with the most up to date browsers.
The best feature I like out of this is the One-click download. After pairing the micro:bit with the Browser you can download from MakeCode microbit right on to the micro:bit
One weekend I brought home some cardboard tubing from work and was chatting with my son about making a game or something. Maybe a tossing game or something. After some brainstorming and glue we came up with this carnival game. I am really happy on the stand and how it turns the disk.
This project was an interesting one. I saw an old fax machine sitting next to the garbage and thought it would be interesting chance to pair it with a micro:bit. So when I got home to placed it in my usual pile of stuff and let it sit for a few days. When I came back and thought about it, I was thinking about the microphone on the telephone and could I use that for a project.... then it hit me - there is a speaker in there!! I just need to find out which wires to connect to the micro:bit to hear the sounds. After some trial and error, I was able to figure it out. Another fun project with the micro:bit sound feature.
One of the advanced categories is Games, here is an example of making a simple catching a falling object game. In this case I called it a 'Catching Taco' Game.
I had the chance to explore the GiggleBot from Dexter Industries. Here is a fun little program I made with it. I can wait to explore more with it... when I have time!
Here is the stop:bit from Kitronik. A fun little add-on for the micro:bit that you can explore external LEDs. This video shows a simple example I programmed with my son.
Here is a few more of my micro:bit projects I have shared on Youtube.
