Welcome to my website. I hope to share in my learning journey with others and you will be inspired to learn and share too.
First off, I little bit about me - I'm from Halifax, NS and grew up there with my family. I went to Mount Allison University In 2012, I graduated from my B.Ed/ from the University of Ottawa Faulty of Education. During this one year program, we learned about various topics but my favourite was the chance to explore with educational technology.
I have enjoyed learning and sharing with people around me. Since 2012, I have had some great times attending and being a part of some awesome professional development opportunities.
During my B.Ed. I got a chance to learn more about Educational technologies during my course - Integrating Technology in the Classroom PED 3119. During this course we first got a chance to dive into Google Apps for Education (GAFE) and I really got to see some of the great things that can be done in the classroom. When a graduated in the spring of 2012, I was looking at different opportunities for employment but settled on heading overseas on an adventures to Qatar.
When I moved to Qatar in 2012-2013 school year, I first got the chance to explore with different technologies in the classroom. In my physics classroom, I brought some LEGO NXT and EV3 Mindstorms into the classroom as an introduction activity for kinematics - I have shared that in my Coding resources.
With all these new activities, I thought that maybe we could start to share and communicate with our students (at these point we were using their personal emails... or nothing at all). So I looked into something and found Google Apps for Education (now known as Google for Education)
My first chance to attend a great Google summit was in Doha, Qatar in 2015. It was an AppsEvent summit. This experience was ... life changing.... in terms of my current experience and knowledge with Google.
After Qatar, I moved to Abu Dhabi to teach at another school and I enjoyed my time there. I taught Physics, Math and Computer Studies. It was also the first time at had a chance to visit a Google office!!
In 2016, we moved back home to be closer to family as our son had just turned one year old. When I was back in Ottawa, I had a chance to work for a few different non-profits to support learning with young people.I had a great time and got to really dive a little deeper into some popular coding platforms, like Scratch and micro:bit.
My next life changing PD was attending Picademy. It is hosted by Raspberry Pi and takes place around the US and UK (once in Canada). I had a chance to learn a lots about bringing together digital and physical making during my time at Picademy and it was really eye opening experience on coding and making with the Raspberry Pi. I look back on that experience and try to recreate it when I'm thinking about running teacher training with coding/making topics.
I'm happy to be part of the GEG Ontario - https://sites.google.com/view/geg-ontario/home
Since 2016, I have been back in Canada and enjoying support teachers and students in various different projects but mostly in the areas of coding and robotics.
