The AFGSF has an ongoing review policy and proposals are reviewed monthly. In reviewing a fundraising or financial aid application, the following criteria will be used to determine fundability of a fund request that matches the AFGSF goals:
CLARITY OF PURPOSE - The applicant’s request should be clearly defined with a specific description of the family’s financial status and how the grant will be spent. A well-around description and budget must be included.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND AUTHENTIC - The fund mainly depends on our volunteers’ network to identify families in need. We will reach out to the families that we know, or referred by other friends(Basically, they work or have connections in Google, Facebook, etc.). As a small fund, this is how we can ensure that our information is authentic and our application review is reliable. Currently, we don’t accept applications from other States or from applicants that we are not familiar with.
SOLID DOCUMENTATION- The applicant should be able to provide requested documents including identification, bank statement or tax return, recent monthly bills. The project contact would follow up the document collection and preparation. Other than that, our project can collect other proof to support our project, including photos, beneficiaries’ comments, emails.
Policies of fundraising campaigns
If a member identifies a family in need, he/she should first ensure that that family meets our criteria. And he/she will open a short meeting to notify other members.
Before launching a fundraising campaign, there should be more than 3 members including the president to support the proposals.
If the fundraising proposal is approved, the campaign holder will prepare a fundraising message, and the fund’s president will build up a donation link.
There are two ways to accept donations. One is through Benevity, a charity platform that collaborated with google. Googlers can make donations over Benevity, and the company will match the donation. Usually, it takes two months to receive donations in the fund’s bank account. The other way is to directly donate to the fund’s bank account, which is swift.
Usually, we should set up the length of a fundraising campaign, for instance, 3 months, 6 months. We should let the applicant know if we hit the fundraising target. And let the applicant decides if he/she is willing to continue the fundraising program or close it.
