CHIEF AKCHA
The Clan Leader. An older resplendent Quatzal. Ehecat’s father. A Sage leader. Some may view him as reserved, but spending time with the Chief will reveal a jolly, good-natured soul. He is popular with his people, and can often be found lending a helping hand when he is not deep in meetings with with the coRPS DE flOCK.
TOPILLI
A cinnamon hummingbird guardian bonded with Chief Akcha. Where the Chief keeps his attention on the bird's eye view, TOPILLI focuses on the day-to-day routines and goings on of the Roost. He can be a bit pedantic over the small details and a rule-stickler for custom, but he is quick to report his findings to the Chief and the people and back again.
AVIAR CHARACTERISTICS:
Aviar can be any species of tropical bird found in real world south and central america.
Adults are anywhere from 4'2" to 5'5" feet tall, although some breeds of aviar (eagles and hawks mostly), can be as tall at 5'11". Hummingbird variants are usually anywhere from 2" - 3'2".
NOTABLE NPCS
EHECAT | the chief's son - A bright green resplendent quetzal with long tail feathers and a bright red chest. He is a curious young man, although he is known to be impulsive, rarely thinking things through before jumping into any given situation.
CHIMALLI | A WARDER
A Harpy Eagle warrior, bonded with TONA. He wields a spear tipped with a long grey feather-blade. He boasts a gruff demeanor and rarely speaks more than four words in a sentence. When he isn't trailing behind Ehecat or keeping watch over the Chief's Nest, he can be found at the Corps de Flock, practicing forms with his spear.
TONA | A Guardian
A violet sabrewing hummingbird, bonded with CHIMALLI. She is talkative, making up for Chimalli's quiet nature. Evidently she is well versed in healing, even familiar with healing stones and how to create tonics and poultices.
YAYAU | AN INNKEEPER
A portly Aracari innkeeper. Yayau owns Feather Fall Inn, which sits south of the Chief's Nest. Like many other innkeepers, Yayau catches wind of most gossip around The Roost, from household feuds to new measures taken to combat the Ohui.
Most information about the Aviar and the reptarran's sister clan can be discovered at the inn, including the cultural differences between the two.
Xe'tzal | A Hermit
An elderly potoo mystic. He lives in a nest on the Flying Fish, which can only be accessed by flight or by glider. He keeps to himself, and is rumoured to be mad by the young Aviar who live in the Roost.
Being nocturnal, he is most active around the Flying Fish at night. Xe'tzal once was one of the most acclaimed warders of the roost, although he has retired to keep an eye on the Cawuhtla now that the Ohui have overtaken the skies. He is well acclaimed with feather-spears and sol runes.
The Cuzamil Clan prides themselves in their mastery over sol, which allow them to harden their molted primary feathers into feather-blades along with the pierce rune. Many Aviar become warriors, and historically task themselves with patrolling for threats above the canopy, where their sister clan, The Ariduff Clan, live below. These patrols are called SKY WATCHES, and are one of many responsibilities of Aviar Warders.
Warders (elite Aviar warriors), are pair-bonded with a Guardian (always a hummingbird variant), who shares a psychic bond with their Warder. The Guardian is tasked with keeping their Warder in fighting order, using runes, healing stones, and sol to invigorate them in battle.
Mol'ecatl is the Aviar's guardian spirit, popularly known for bringing the dawn and day.
Mol'ecatl is known as the Great Conquerer, and is primarily celebrated for bringing invigoration and Second Winds. Mol'ecatl does not have a temple in the roost, but his sacred ground is known as CAWUHTLA, WHICH houses the sunstone perch, which historically houses the sol stone.
MOL'ECATL represents the day, and is often represented as a giant Virga Fish with a golden spot - the sun - in the middle of his forehead. His migratory swim through the skies bring the winds and rain. and his feather fins and tail are the clouds that his children, the Virga Fish, swim in as they, too, migrate from the west to the east and back again.
Virga Fish - A grey-white breed of fish that swims inside cloud formations, but especially rain clouds. They are a migratory species, traveling from one side of the Canopy to the other throughout the seasons. The Virga Fish travel in schools deep within pockets of cloud layers, making them difficult to spot without an eagle eye. They use the cloud layers in order to breathe, although they can hold their breaths up to 3hrs as they fly to the next closest cloud range. Their fins double as gliders, and their scales are similar to feathers.
When it rains, their movements resemble streaks of rain. They are the Aviar's primary food source.,
Abanflys - A shimmering gold-and-green dragonfly. They are giant, and tend to be found nearby sources of water around the canopy peaks. The Abanflys' weak points are their shimmering wings (which can be pierced through) and their large red eyes.
These insects can be hunted for a variety of resources: their meat, their shells (which can be used for reinforced armor and shields), and their water sacks (round pouches on their cheeks), which can be used to create spear-tight waterskins.
Kaehko Palms - Kaehko palms are tall palm trees that grow on the sides of the cliffs above the Canopy. They are often split between at least 2-3 trunks, earning them the Aerconi name of "The Hydra Palm". Kaehko rubber can act as a lightweight glue in traditional Aviar woodworking, or formed into a kaehko ball for the Aviar sport of Ol'ama.
The Laiana Tangle - A series of dense jungle trees that sport long vines strong enough to carry the combined weight of ten men. They Laiana Tangle can be dangerous if wandering through the trees without spatial awareness, as it can be difficult to get out of the tangle once one has stumbled inside.
The Laiana Tangle's Vines are used by the Aviar to support the bridges between levels of the Roost, which were crafted for the Reptarrans to cross safely.
ACEITE - a stout tree with dense, waxy foliage. It bears fruit during the hottest months of the year (June-August). This fruit is about the size of a fist, with a shiny green skin and a fig-like inside. Depending on the maturity of the fruit, the produce can either be tangy-sweet (ripe) or a bear mild flavor (unripe) that highlights the base of a dish.
