Cara Wilmot, Ed.D., TODHH, is an educational consultant, researcher, and trainer specializing in deaf education, literacy, STEM integration, transition services, and accessible educational materials (AEM). She currently serves with the National Technical Institute for the Deaf Regional STEM Center at the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (NRSC @ AIDB), where she supports programs and services for students who are deaf and hard of hearing across the Southeast.
Dr. Wilmot earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida as an Office of Special Education Programs Project SPIDERS scholar, with a focus on deaf education and rural school districts. Her research interests include evidence-based literacy instruction, equitable programming for students who are deaf and hard of hearing, and Text-to-Sign Language (TT-SL) as accessible educational materials.
She has presented nationally on literacy, transition, assistive technology, and AEM in ASL at conferences including the Assistive Technology Industry Association, Council for Exceptional Children, and Closing the Gap. Her current work focuses on improving access to grade-level content through ASL videotext, translation, and interpretation supports for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
