During our second exposure to the community, we conducted thorough assessments, and community engagement. The goal was to identify priority health problems and initiate solutions in partnership with the community.
We are once again ready to listen, learn, and be with the people of Barangay Kauswagan. The passion is back, the togetherness is back, and the heartfelt service returns

July 7, 2025 - PANAGTIGOM: TINGOG SA KOMUNIDAD
In our second gathering with the community of Kauswagan, we opened the floor to conversations that matter most. After presenting the issues we observed from our last exposure, the residents participated in a multivoting activity — choosing the top 3 problems they believe impact their lives the most.
They also shared the reasons behind their choices, offering us deeper insight into their daily struggles and priorities. As a token of appreciation, food packs were distributed to all participants.
This Panagtigom isn’t just a meeting — it’s a step toward genuine community-led solutions
To address the pressing issue of improper solid waste management in the community, our team conducted a Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS).
Households were informed to start segregating their waste, and we went house-to-house to collect and categorize their garbage. Each type of waste was measured and recorded — a crucial step in understanding the community’s waste patterns and finding sustainable solutions.
Small steps like this lead to bigger change. Together, let’s build a cleaner, healthier Kauswagan.
To better understand the health and sanitation challenges in Kauswagan, our team conducted an in-depth data gathering activity through Key Informant Interviews (KII) and Focus Group Discussions (FGD).
We spoke with experts and stakeholders — including the Municipal Health Officer of Alicia, a BEmONC-trained nurse from Alicia District Hospital, the Municipal Sanitary Inspector, the principal of Kauswagan Elementary School, the Barangay Captain, and the Barangay Councilor for Sanitation — to gain expert insights into the root causes of the community’s concerns.
We also held FGDs with pregnant women, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), and identified hypertensive individuals. In addition, our team went house-to-house, conducting surveys on maternal health, hypertension, sanitation, and more.
This collective effort is a vital step toward creating evidence-based, community-driven interventions.
