Purok Santol is considered the center of Barangay Kauswagan, as it hosts key establishments such as the barangay hall, covered court, and other community facilities. With 101 households, it is the most populated among all the puroks.
The primary sources of income here revolve around commerce, including small sari-sari stores, pig farming, and poultry. Some residents are also engaged in rubber tree farming, copra production, and fishing. The purok is home to many of the barangay officials and has a notable number of residents working in both the government and private sectors, making it a dynamic and active hub of the community.
Purok Manga marks the boundary between Barangay Kauswagan and Barangay Malipayon, making it a strategic and easily accessible area as the main road runs through it. It has 48 households and is notable for its unique demographicโbeing the only purok where females outnumber males.
Livelihoods in the area are diverse, with many residents relying on rubber tree farming as a primary source of income. Others are employed in government work or as private employees, while some engage in copra production and fishing. This mix of occupations reflects the varied economic activities and adaptability of the community.
Purok Malipayon, the farthest purok in Barangay Kauswagan, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay, is a small and serene community with approximately 41 households. Nestled in a more mountainous and lush area compared to the other puroks, it offers a greener and more secluded environment.
The residents primarily rely on copra production and small-scale fishery work for their livelihood, making use of the natural resources that surround them. Its distance and terrain contribute to its peaceful atmosphere, setting it apart as a quiet yet hardworking part of the barangay.
We conducted a Focus Group Discussion with the residents and officials of the Barangay โ their experiences may differ, but they all share one goal: the betterment of the community. ๐
