Introduction

I knew when I grew up I would leave. I would leave and never come back. I yearned for adventure. I couldn’t spend the rest of my life here wasting my time in this place even if my family roots started here and would probably never leave. I was in my second semester of high school and I hated it. Last year my older sister graduated high school just to end up being a cashier at the local market. That would not be me. I was going places and doing things.

I lifted my head from the cold, hard ground. I sat up and looked around.

'Where am I?’ I thought.

Everything was pitch black. I opened my eyes and moved my hands in front of me. I couldn’t even see my hands in front of my face. The last thing I remember was riding in the car with my family. We were headed to the local market where my sister worked. I closed my eyes and listened. All I could hear was silence. ‘How did I end up here?’ I begged my memory to not fail me.

I stood up and immediately hit my head before I could stand up completely. I crouched down and started waddling with my hands out to avoid running into a wall. I slowly scooted for about one minute when I started to see something that looked like light coming from up ahead of me. I waddled even faster toward the dim light. As the light drew nearer, I picked up my pace. I finally reached the source of the light. I touched a wall that looked like wood with an opening large enough for me to crawl through. I crouched down and looked through the hole. I could see stars and the moon shining above me. I crawled out and turned around to discover I had been in the trunk of a gigantic tree. I turned back around away from the tree. I had never seen such a beautiful sight. The moon was so luminous it illuminated everything around me. The stars were so numerous throughout the sky and shone brighter than any I had seen before. I was captivated by the beauty of the night sky and then I remembered, ‘I just climbed out of a mysterious tree trunk into a world with the most beautiful night sky; however, I have no idea where I am or how I got here.’

I pulled my eyes from the magnificent sky and looked at the scenery around me. I was surrounded by huge trees. It looked like I was in the middle of a forest. I walked a few steps away from the tree I had emerged from. As I did, the plants among my feet started radiating light and glowing in a blue hue. I stopped, terrified initially. I didn't recognize the plants around me. Then I looked around. The whole forest was glowing with a dim blue hue. Everything was so beautiful. I decided I would walk through the forest a little to see if I could find someone who might be able to explain to me where I was. As I walked, the forest glowed even more and became even more beautiful. I did not know where I was, but it was magnificent.
