What Is the Purpose of Pursuit Call-Off Coms?
The purpose of a pursuit call-off is to protect officer safety and ensure time is not wasted chasing suspects who rely on unrealistic or rule-breaking tactics. This allows officers to refocus efforts on criminals who can be pursued and apprehended fairly.
Authority
The authority to call off a pursuit lies only with:
• Advanced Pursuit Trained Officers
Once a call-off has been declared, all units must immediately comply and disengage from the chase without exception.
When to Call Off
A pursuit must be terminated under any of the following circumstances:
Safety Concerns
• The pursuit presents an unacceptable risk to officers, civilians, or suspects.
• The suspect commits multiple significant rule breaks.
• Insufficient officer presence to safely continue the pursuit.
Rule-Breaking by Suspects
• Entering or retreating into green zones to evade capture.
• Major GTA driving, including but not limited to:
- Cliff launches.
- Unrealistic or impossible stunts.
- Excessive off-road use in vehicles not suited for that environment.
Operational Limitations
• Too few available units to maintain proper control of the situation.
• The suspect’s vehicle possesses an overwhelming and unrealistic advantage.
How to Call Off
Step 1: Radio Communication
Make a clear and direct announcement:
“All units, this Officer [Callsign]. The pursuit of [vehicle description] is now called off due to [reason]. Break off immediately.”
Step 2: Disengagement
• Turn off lights and sirens.
• Break visual contact with the suspect.
• Return to standard patrol duties.
Step 3: Documentation
Documentation is only necessary in situations of frequent rule breaks:
• Document and escalate any observed rule-breaking for further review with CMG Admins. Make sure to have a 10 min clip.
Key Principles
Safety Above Apprehension:
No capture is worth unnecessary risk.
Fair Play:
Pursuits must remain realistic; avoid rewarding unrealistic evasion.
Professionalism:
Communicate clearly, follow procedure, and do not dispute call-off decisions over the radio.
